Tokyo Century Corporation has made a donation to the "Music Hall and Central Area Disaster Memorial Complex Facility Development Project (scheduled to open in FY2031)" promoted by Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture, utilizing the corporate version of the hometown tax donation system. In conjunction with this, an award ceremony was held at Sendai City Hall on June 16 (Tue), where we received a letter of appreciation from Mayor Kori.

Background of the Donation

Under our purpose of "Creating a sustainable society where future generations can live abundantly," Tokyo Century Corporation has focused on sustainability activities such as disaster recovery support and arts support.

Based on its experience in recovering from the Great East Japan Earthquake, Sendai City is promoting the creation of a resilient and robust "Disaster Prevention and Environmental City" that prepares for future threats such as natural disasters and climate change risks. This complex facility, which can be said to be a symbol of this initiative, is an unprecedented facility that not only develops infrastructure but also utilizes the power of music and other cultural arts to convey and create, and to pass on the memories and lessons of the earthquake to future generations.

The theme of "Cultural Arts and Disaster Culture" advocated by this complex facility deeply aligns with our company's purpose and key areas of sustainability management, leading to this donation due to our strong resonance with this stance.

Overview of the Complex Facility

The facility to be developed through this project is a complex facility that advocates the fusion of "cultural arts" and "disaster culture," and is scheduled to open in FY2031.

The hall area and cultural arts area will include a large hall capable of performances such as orchestras and operas, as well as a small hall and practice rooms. The disaster culture area will feature permanent and special exhibition spaces that convey the experience and memory of the earthquake, as well as a multipurpose exchange space for learning and practicing diverse disaster cultures through workshops and lectures, creating a space where people can regularly engage with disaster culture.

Future Outlook

Through this donation, we will further strengthen our partnership with Sendai City, which has been selected as a decarbonization pioneer region. Tokyo Century Corporation will continue to contribute to the "resolution of global social issues" such as the development of social infrastructure, regional revitalization, and the realization of a decarbonized society, in collaboration with local governments and communities.
