In recent years, large-scale disasters have been occurring frequently across Japan, renewing attention on the importance of 'self-help, mutual aid, and public support' in community disaster resilience. At the same time, participants in disaster drills are aging, and younger generations and families with children often lack opportunities to engage in local disaster preparedness. To address this challenge, the Tokyo Junior Chamber (Shinagawa Branch) will host an experiential event titled 'Shinagawa Survival Camp' on June 28, 2026 (Sunday) at Nishioi 6-chome Fureai Plaza, under the theme of 'learning disaster preparedness through fun and engagement'.

Under the supervision of the General Incorporated Association 72-Hour Survival Education Association, the event will offer practical, disaster-relevant workshops tailored for families, including fire-starting, water filtration, emergency first aid, and manhole toilet setup. The goal is to cultivate the ability to 'think, judge, and act independently' during emergencies, encouraging people of all ages to view disaster preparedness as a personal responsibility. Furthermore, by collaborating with local communities, student groups, government, and businesses, the event aims to strengthen community ties and nurture future leaders of mutual aid. With participation limited to 40 people, this event enables deep learning and authentic experiences, aiming to pioneer a new model of community-based disaster resilience from Shinagawa.

About the Organizer

The Tokyo Junior Chamber (hereinafter referred to as 'Tokyo JC') is a public interest incorporated association established in 1949 (Showa 24) by young people who shared the vision that 'rebuilding a new Japan is the work of youth,' at a time when the scars of war deeply affected both society and people's hearts.

Since then, Tokyo JC has pursued the ideal of 'realizing a bright and prosperous society' through various initiatives and movements. The organization is composed of members from diverse backgrounds—regardless of race, nationality, gender, occupation, or religion—who join voluntarily based on personal conviction.

The Japan Junior Chamber movement is founded on three pillars: 'personal development,' 'service to society,' and 'friendship with the world.' Members engage in mutual enlightenment and exchange, cultivate public spirit, and actively contribute to societal development through collaboration with local communities, tackling social challenges proactively.

Through diverse practical training programs, members and alumni—many of whom continue to lead in their communities after retiring at age 40—have become influential figures in politics, business, and public service.
