Asahi Mutual Life Insurance Company (President: Kenichiro Ishijima, hereinafter "Asahi Life"), Sanshin Corporation (President: Makoto Sone, hereinafter "Sanshin"), and Tokyo Gas Engineering Solutions Co., Ltd. (President: Yasuhiro Konishi, hereinafter "TGES") will implement "Carbon Neutralization of All Heat Supply" [Note 1] (hereinafter "This Initiative") at Shinjuku El Tower (hereinafter "El Tower"), owned by Asahi Life and Sanshin.
The Shinjuku West Exit District Heating and Cooling Center, operated by TGES, manufactures cold and hot water and supplies it to 8 locations, including El Tower, office buildings, and schools. This initiative will offset the CO2 emissions corresponding to El Tower's annual heat consumption [Note 2] (estimated at approximately 2,000 tons per year) in full by using energy-saving J-Credits [Note 3] (hereinafter "J-Credits") procured by TGES. Through this initiative, Asahi Life and Sanshin will be able to report the greenhouse gas emissions associated with heat usage at El Tower as heat with an adjusted emission factor of zero under the "Greenhouse Gas Emissions Calculation, Reporting, and Disclosure System" (SHK System) based on the Act on Rationalizing Energy Use and Energy Conservation (Energy Conservation Act). This initiative will be the first case of "carbon neutralization of heat" in TGES's urban district heating and cooling business.
