Film Adaptation of "Mokuzugani" by Riichi Akamatsu, Winner of the 1st Haruhiko Oyabu Newcomer Award, Announced!

Tokuma Shoten Publishing Co., Ltd. has announced that "Mokuzugani," a suspense novel depicting the dark side of the post-disaster business by Riichi Akamatsu and winner of the 1st Haruhiko Oyabu Newcomer Award, will be adapted into a film. The movie will be directed by Koto Nagata, with planning and production by Shunji Iwai, screenplay by Riichi Akamatsu and Shunji Iwai, and production and distribution by K2 Pictures.

Unit 1 exploded. Watching the nuclear accident on TV, Yusuke Kijima is convinced that something is about to change. But what awaits him are unchanging days and frustration from decontamination workers and nuclear evacuees starting to live in his town. Six years later, Yusuke decides to become a decontamination worker at a friend's invitation. However, after witnessing the large sums of money involved, Yusuke soon finds himself...

Riichi Akamatsu
Born in Kagawa Prefecture in 1956. After working as a decontamination worker, he won the 1st Haruhiko Oyabu Newcomer Award for "Mokuzugani." He later published his first full-length novel "Saba" and won the 22nd Haruhiko Oyabu Award for "Inu."
