Toshima Village Office (Location: Kagoshima City, Kagoshima Prefecture; Village Mayor: Genichiro Kubo) commissioned YouTuber 'Bocchi Onna Camp' to produce a promotional video aimed at increasing awareness of camping in the Tokara Islands and promoting tourism. A video documenting her camping experience on Takara Island was released on YouTube on Friday, March 27th.
In conjunction with the video's release, the village's website was significantly updated with information about campsites and launched in April. With advice from Bocchi Onna Camp, the website now includes details on campsites, island hot springs, and shops, as well as information on ferry booking and boarding procedures, local reception methods, usage guidelines for campsites, and precautions for camping on the islands.

Reports of swarm earthquakes occurring mainly around Akuseki Island and Kobakara Island after June 2025 were widely covered nationwide, and concerns about the earthquake's impact still persist. However, the earthquakes have now subsided, and island residents have returned to their calm daily lives.
This promotional video was produced with the hope of dispelling, even slightly, the negative image that has been associated with the Tokara Islands due to the swarm earthquakes, and to encourage many people to visit for tourism. Please take a look.

Background of Video Production
In the Tokara Islands, where the number of guesthouses and available accommodations is limited, many people are forced to give up on visiting even if they can book a ferry, because they cannot secure guesthouse reservations. However, with camping, no reservation is required, and visitors can come to the islands anytime.
Especially winter is the optimal season for camping on the islands.
- Clear air allows you to monopolize the night sky filled with countless stars, unique to remote islands without city lights.
- Milder climate compared to the mainland.
- You can warm your body in the secret hot springs that well up on the island.
- Fewer insects.
- Fewer users mean you can monopolize the untouched great outdoors.
There are campsites in the Tokara Islands where such 'ultimate solo camping' can be realized, but unfortunately, most campers are unaware of them due to insufficient promotion by the village office.

Therefore, we invited YouTuber 'Bocchi Onna Camp,' who has over 180,000 subscribers, to the Tokara Islands and had her produce a video documenting her actual camping experience on the island.
Bocchi Onna Camp, as her name suggests, primarily focuses on solo camping. Her 'Hitori Izakaya' (solo pub) style, where she enjoys making homemade snacks and drinking alcohol just for herself at the campsite, is popular among viewers. She has also published recipe books such as 'The Best Solo Camping for Enjoying Sake and Snacks in Japan.'
During this camping trip, she promoted 'Tokara Gin,' a new local specialty of the village, while eating snacks made from local products provided by the village. Tokara Gin is a craft gin made from the island's citrus 'Shoko Mikan,' a new product launched just last December.
Tourism in the Tokara Islands peaks from spring to summer, when many anglers visit for giant trevally (GT) fishing, making winter the off-season. However, by letting many people know that winter is the optimal time for camping, we aim to unearth new tourism demand, and thus commissioned the production of a video with camping promotion as its theme.

'I braced myself for 'Japan's last unexplored region' when heading to the island, but I was surprised that I felt no inconvenience at all for four days, as there were well-maintained campsites and hot springs. I guess I braced myself too much (laughs).
In the video, I put a lot of effort into editing to reproduce the vivid, 'high-saturation' colors I saw with my own eyes! I also packed in the relaxed atmosphere unique to remote islands.
I tried to summarize information about shops, accommodations, and necessary procedures in chronological order to be helpful for those planning to visit Takara Island. Please use this video as a reference to virtually experience the island's charm and visit in person!'
About the Promotional Video
The video was filmed in late February 2026, on the southernmost part of the Tokara Islands.
