TOK Achieves 49.2% CO₂ Emission Reduction Five Years Ahead of Schedule, Launches New "TCN55+" Project

TOK Corporation (Headquarters: Itabashi-ku, Tokyo; President and Representative Director: Keisuke Yoshikawa) has achieved a 49.2% reduction in CO₂ emissions by fiscal 2025, surpassing its initial target of a 47% reduction from fiscal 2019 levels under the "TCN47 (TOK CARBON NEUTRAL 47)" initiative. This achievement comes five years ahead of the original target year of fiscal 2030.

This success is attributed to the introduction of renewable energy and the cumulative effect of continuous energy-saving improvements led by on-site teams.

In response, TOK is launching a new project, "TCN55+", which aims to reduce CO₂ emissions by 55% by fiscal 2030.

Background of TCN47

In recent years, the demand for decarbonization from companies in response to climate change has rapidly increased, making CO₂ emission reduction one of the critical management challenges for the manufacturing industry.

Specifically, there is a growing need to set medium- to long-term reduction targets based on SBT (Science Based Targets) and manage emissions across the entire supply chain (Scope 1, 2, and 3).

• Scope 1: Direct greenhouse gas emissions from the company (e.g., fuel consumption)

• Scope 2: Indirect emissions from the use of electricity, heat, and other energy

• Scope 3: Emissions across the entire supply chain, including raw material procurement, logistics, product use, and disposal

The reduction targets for the "TCN47" initiative specifically cover Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions.

Against this backdrop, TOK established "TCN47" with a goal of reducing CO₂ emissions by 47% by fiscal 2030, using fiscal 2019 as the baseline year, and has been promoting company-wide efforts.

TCN47 Achievements and Success Factors

The primary factor contributing to this achievement is the initiatives undertaken at our Yamanashi factory.

This factory achieved an annual CO₂ reduction of approximately 134 tons, accounting for about 90% of the total reduction.

Key measures include:

• Installation of solar power generation systems

• Switching to LED lighting

• Updating to high-efficiency air conditioning systems

• Measures against air leaks in compressors

• Visualization of energy consumption and room temperature

In addition to these, the continuous implementation of daily energy-saving improvement activities led by on-site teams significantly contributed to this major achievement. The essence of this initiative lies in creating results through the "accumulation of operational improvements" rather than relying on special technologies.

Future Developments

Based on these achievements, TOK is launching "TCN55+", aiming for a further 55% reduction in CO₂ emissions by fiscal 2030, and will promote further initiatives.
