The sensibility inherent in Japanese crafts, and the power of thought and hand that confronts it — the experimental and artistic project "Craft x Tech" re-examines the essence of "tech." This project, produced by Art & Design Studio Tangent, was launched by its founder Hideki Yoshimoto, with design curator Maria Cristina Didero serving as curatorial director.
In the "Craft x Tech Tohoku Project" announced in 2024, collaborations were realized between traditional crafts from six production areas in six Tohoku prefectures and six groups of creators.

We are pleased to announce that the "Craft x Tech Tokai Project 2026 Tokyo Exhibition" will be held for four days from Saturday, May 30, to Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at kudan house (Kudan House) in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, a registered tangible cultural property. This exhibition, as the second collaboration, will be the world premiere of a collection of works created through the collaboration of traditional crafts from six production areas in three Tokai prefectures and internationally active creators, titled "Craft x Tech Tokai Project."

The Tokai region has fostered one of Japan's leading manufacturing cultures, blessed with rich foundations such as high-quality pottery clay and clear streams, and further developed artisan techniques and commerce as a key transportation hub along the Tokaido and Nakasendo roads.

For this second collaboration, businesses from six production areas in the Tokai region are participating: Fudogama (Mino ware, Gifu Prefecture), Warabi Paper Company (Mino washi, Gifu Prefecture), Suzusan (Arimatsu Narumi shibori, Aichi Prefecture), Ando Cloisonne (Owari cloisonné, Aichi Prefecture), Shingama (Seto sometsuke ware, Aichi Prefecture), and Itogo (Iga kumihimo, Mie Prefecture).
Furthermore, six internationally acclaimed creators—David Keohne, Lanzavecchia + Wai, Bethan Laura Wood, Philippe Malouin, Yujin Samukawa (EUGENE STUDIO), and Atang Tshikare—will pair with each production area to create innovative art pieces.

We will disseminate new forms of traditional crafts, where traditional techniques rooted in the Tokai region resonate with unique creativity, to the world.
