「KyoHA (Kyoto Humanoid Association)」- First Report Meeting Held for Japan-originated, Purely Domestic Humanoid Development

The 'KyoHA (Kyoto Humanoid Association),' established to revive Japan's humanoid robot industry, announced its first verification machine, 'SEIMEI.' Emphasizing domestic production from components to development, the prototype was completed in about four months. KyoHA proposes a new motion generation approach that learns from human movements and will advance the development of two types of humanoid robots.

## Background of Establishment

In recent years, humanoid robot development has been rapidly progressing, primarily led by giant tech companies in the United States and IT, EV, and robot companies in China. Japan must demonstrate its presence as a former leader in robotics.

In addition, social issues such as natural disasters and labor shortages are becoming more severe in Japan, increasing expectations for robotics technology. In particular, "humanoid robots," which possess human-like movement capabilities and can operate in extreme environments, are attracting attention as next-generation mechanical systems.

However, as AI and software evolve, the domestic development system in the hardware domain and integrated industrial initiatives remain undeveloped. To overcome these challenges, KyoHA was established in Kyoto, the city of manufacturing, as a new framework for industrial collaboration that brings together Japan's technological capabilities.

### Manufacturing System

Currently, the following companies and institutions are participating as members. We will continue to widely solicit participation as a "Japan Alliance for Humanoids" spanning industry and academia.

## Report on the Verification Machine

KyoHA reports the outline of its first step verification machine as part of its efforts towards Japan-originated, purely domestically produced humanoid development. This prototype is the starting point for future technological verification and social implementation, serving as a basic verification model for the realization of humanoid robots.

* All processes, from component manufacturing to finished product assembly, are carried out domestically in Japan.
* Trial production and verification were achieved in a short period, with design initiation to assembly completion taking approximately four months.

We, KyoHA, propose a new approach to robot motion generation by directly incorporating human movements into learning. Utilizing posture information extracted from videos, robots acquire movements through trial and error.

This enables the realization of diverse robot movements while efficiently utilizing data.

### Future Plans

Starting with the verification machine reported this time, we aim to achieve fully domestic production for data and AI as well.

Moving forward, the development of two types of humanoid robots will be carried out in parallel.

We will prioritize the power model.

* Power Model: High-output model using hydraulics/motors.
* Agile/Functional Model: Agile model primarily using motors.

Scheduled for Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at Kyoto Heian Jingu Kaikan.
