Graduated from Tokyo Institute of Technology in 1964. Doctor of Engineering. After working at Kikutake Kiyonori Architect and Associates, he established the Environment Design Institute in 1968. He has served as a professor at the University of the Ryukyus, Nagoya Institute of Technology, Tokyo Institute of Technology, and the Open University of Japan; President of the Architectural Institute of Japan; President of the Japan Institute of Architects; Member (20th and 21st terms) and affiliated member (22nd and 23rd terms) of the Science Council of Japan; and President of the Association of Children's Environment.
