Exceed Releases Survey Results on Claude Usage for Programming Schools

Exceed Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Aiko Sawabe), operator of the digital talent development service 'TechHigher' for teens, has released the results of its 'Claude Usage Survey for Programming Schools,' conducted among stakeholders in the industry nationwide.

Analysis of 34 responses collected as of April 19, 2026, revealed that interest in introducing courses and materials using Claude averaged 4.09 out of 5, highlighting a strong desire to utilize generative AI in educational settings. However, regarding usage frequency, the most common response was 'not yet used' (16 cases), suggesting that despite rising interest, practical implementation is still in its infancy. The results indicate that Claude usage in the programming school market is currently in a 'high-interest, low-penetration' startup phase.

Key Findings: 1. High Interest, but Polarized Usage Interest in Claude-based courses and materials was high, with 16 respondents rating it '5' and 8 rating it '4' on a 5-point scale. Conversely, 'unutilized' was the most frequent response for usage frequency (16 cases), while 9 respondents reported 'almost daily use,' showing a coexistence of non-adopters and early adopters.

2. Demand for 'Student Intro' and 'Practical Classroom Use' The most popular theme was basic knowledge and introductory courses for students. This reflects a need for safe and clear entry points, including how to position AI for parents and students. High interest was also seen in themes for owners and instructors, such as material creation, lesson prep, operational efficiency, and original curriculum development.

3. Primary Challenges: Cost and Safety Management Cost was cited as the biggest barrier to implementation. Other top concerns included safety and appropriate usage management for children/students, curriculum integration methods, and anxiety regarding instructor literacy.

4. On-Demand Format Preferred initially For learning formats, 'Online (self-paced video materials)' was the most popular (24 cases). For offering courses, 'Recorded/Text materials' stood out (28 cases), significantly outperforming in-person or live-streaming formats.
