TerraCycle Japan LLC (Location: Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture, General Manager: Yuko Naniwa) will strive towards realizing a society where the very concept of "discarding" disappears.

■ The Background: We Want to Realize Our Dream

Currently, excessive consumption and a disposable culture are causing global environmental problems. Even with materials that are technically recyclable, in many cases, economic rationality does not align, leading to them being discarded after use, polluting the global environment through incineration or landfill. Meanwhile, new resources continue to be extracted from the Earth to manufacture new products.

Our mission is "Let's discard the concept of discarding!" We are a social enterprise that solves environmental problems, especially waste problems, through business. We collaborate and cooperate with various stakeholders to collect and recycle used products and packaging.

Achieving a circular society requires the combined efforts of the entire society—municipalities, corporations, organizations, and individuals.

A circular future is possible only through the cooperation of everyone: municipalities and partner companies that agree with TerraCycle's mission, supporting companies for technology and operations, companies and communities that serve as collection points for our recycling programs, and each and every individual who brings their used products and packaging to the collection boxes. Shall we realize a circular society together?

To discard the concept of discarding, TerraCycle Japan will continue to take on challenges.

■ TerraCycle Japan's Initiatives

We support the resolution of various business challenges through recycling. To date, we have co-created and operated recycling programs with over approximately 100 companies and brands.

■ Recycling Program Development and Operation

• Currently, we operate approximately 50 recycling programs in collaboration with partner companies and local governments. We collect and recycle used products and packaging in categories such as beauty cosmetics, daily necessities, kitchenware, beverage containers, stationery and recording supplies, sports equipment, tobacco accessories, general pharmaceuticals and medical devices, and safety supplies.

• Anyone can participate in our recycling programs, including companies, organizations, individuals, and volunteer groups. For details on each recycling program, please check TerraCycle's homepage.

• Collection methods include "Store/Hub Collection," where items are brought to designated stores or facilities; "Individual/Group Collection," where individuals or groups collect items; and "School Collection," conducted at schools. We are expanding collection points nationwide to enable participation from various locations across Japan.

• Upon account registration, TerraCycle points are awarded to your account based on the amount collected. These TerraCycle points can be used as donations to charities or schools, or exchanged for products made from recycled materials.
