TechTrain (TechBowl Inc., Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo, CEO: Masao Ozawa, hereinafter "TechTrain"), which aims to "Support all people's terminals with technology," has completed a "Practical Programming Training to Think Deeply While Utilizing AI" for prospective employees of Insource Inc. (Surugadai Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, President and Representative Director: Takayuki Funahashi, hereinafter "Insource").

This is the third year of training for prospective employees in collaboration with Insource. The content has been updated to reflect the spread of generative AI, with the theme of "fostering the ability to think deeply while utilizing AI." Employees in engineering roles learned Web development centered on HTML/CSS/JavaScript/PHP, while general employees learned data analysis and task automation using Python. All 11 prospective employees completed the mandatory curriculum in approximately 3 months.

This Year's Updates: 3 Mechanisms to Support "Learning Methods" in the AI Era

While leveraging the existing training foundation, we have strengthened the mechanisms for thinking and learning with AI.

Introduction of AI Learning Support (TechTrain Learning Agent)

Instead of directly providing answers, it offers hints on thinking processes and necessary knowledge, creating an environment where learners can proactively engage in problem-solving.

Introduction of Growth Logs

A system was introduced for weekly reflection on learning content and insights. Sharing these within the team promoted learning retention and mutual understanding.

Updates to Engineer Consultation Sessions

In consultation sessions with current engineers, participants not only asked technical questions but also shared methods for utilizing generative AI and incorporating it into their learning. Opportunities were provided to consider learning methods unique to the AI era.

Training Objectives: Fostering "Self-Reliance" Without Over-Reliance on AI

In an era where AI can instantly generate code, the training was designed to emphasize the development of three key abilities:

The ability to understand the "mechanism" beyond the correct answer We prioritized not just creating something that works, but understanding the underlying logic and being able to explain it in one's own words.

The ability to utilize AI as a "sounding board" Instead of delegating everything to AI, participants cultivated an attitude of using AI as a "good partner" for tasks such as identifying errors and discussing implementation strategies.

The ability to learn together as a team A team system of 3-4 people was introduced, mixing those with and without programming and development experience. Sharing trial-and-error experiences and AI utilization techniques fostered communication skills essential for joining the company and a sense of team development close to actual work.

Training Outcomes: Changes in Participants' Mindset and Behavior

In a short period of 3 months, significant changes were observed, not just in technical skills, but in becoming "individuals who can think for themselves and operate autonomously."

【Quantitative Results】100% Completion Rate of Mandatory Curriculum (11/11 participants)

All participants completed Web development for engineering roles and data analysis/task automation using Python for general roles.

【Transformation】From "Searching for Answers" to "Understanding Mechanisms"

Engineering Roles

"Before, I would immediately send error messages to AI, but now I read them myself first to check where the error is occurring."

"I now intentionally change values to check the behavior and confirm the mechanism."

General Roles

"Even if I encounter an unfamiliar technical term, I now try to look it up and understand it first."

"The psychological hurdle for terms like IT and DX has been lowered."

【Organizational】Building Strong Relationships of Trust with Cohorts

Engineering Roles

"Experiencing leadership fostered a sense of responsibility and initiative, realizing that the team wouldn't progress unless I took action."

"I was impressed when my three teammates helped me when I was stuck on environment setup."

General Roles

"Sharing each member's questions gave me perspectives I wouldn't have realized on my own."

"Building relationships before joining the company gave me a sense of security to proceed with my learning."

Future Outlook

TechTrain will continue to refine its training design to foster self-reliance and problem-solving skills, utilizing generative AI not just as a "tool for answers" but as a "good partner that supports thinking ability."

Furthermore, we will deepen the team learning and consultation opportunities with current engineers that we have always valued, and we will fully commit to providing learning experiences that ignite each individual's curiosity, making them look forward to their work after joining the company.

Ms. Aya Kishimoto, Group Human Resources and General Affairs Department, Insource Inc.

This is our third year implementing this as training for prospective employees, and this time, we have built a system that allows for self-directed learning while incorporating the trending generative AI.

Beyond programming, I feel that participants have gained many skills that will be useful after joining the company, such as building relationships with their peers through team learning and learning the nuances of consultation.

While the participants this time were generally highly motivated and many were proactive learners, a certain number of prospective employees also struggled to balance their studies.

Despite these challenges, Ms. Kikuchi provided careful follow-up, and everyone was able to complete all their learning.

We have high expectations for their future contributions in various fields within our company.

Miku Kikuchi, Training Support Manager, TechTrain

In this, our third year of training, we aimed to create a program where participants could feel the "joy of thinking with their own minds," especially now with the widespread adoption of generative AI.

While the hurdle to obtaining answers has lowered, the importance of understanding "why that code is generated" and the ability to derive solutions through dialogue with AI have become more critical than ever.

This time, we emphasized a temperature close to that of actual work through team learning and mentor consultations.

Hearing feedback from participants such as "I can now break down errors and think about them" and "I learned from my colleagues' perspectives" makes me feel that they are ready to carve out their own future, rather than being swayed by AI.

TechTrain will continue to be a place where such "self-reliant individuals" can grow.
