●Performer Profile / Joe Odagiri

Born in 1976. Studied method acting in the US and Japan. In 2003, he made his film debut as a lead in "Bright Future" (directed by Kiyoshi Kurosawa), which was selected for the competition section of the Cannes International Film Festival.

Since then, he has established a unique style by prioritizing works with strong authorship and artistic merit. His first feature film as a director, "They Say That Stay-at-Home-Dads Are the Best" (19), was the first Japanese film ever selected for the Venice Days section of the 76th Venice International Film Festival. The film won Best Picture at the 56th Antalya International Film Festival (Turkey) and the 24th International Film Festival of Kerala (India). His NHK drama "Oliver na Inu, (Gosh!!) Kono Yarou" (21, 22/script, direction, editing, appearance) won the Grand Prix in the single drama category at the Tokyo Drama Awards 2022. The same work was released in theaters last year as "THE Oliver na Inu, (Gosh!!) Kono Yarou MOVIE." He also starred in and co-produced "Natsu no Suna no Ue" (directed by Shinya Tamada), which won the Special Jury Award at the 27th Shanghai International Film Festival, the first Japanese film to do so in 23 years.

"Kuro Rōjō" (directed by Kiyoshi Kurosawa) will be released on June 19.
