TBS Group has decided to hold the 12th edition of its company-wide SDGs project, 'Earth Smiling WEEK,' for seven days from Monday, May 11 to Sunday, May 17.
First held in November 2020 ahead of other Japanese commercial broadcasters, 'Earth Smiling WEEK' is an 'ALL TBS' initiative involving TBS Television, TBS Radio, BS-TBS, TBS Channels (CS), all JNN stations, and digital platforms like TVer and YouTube. This time, it will continue to introduce SDGs initiatives progressing worldwide and in Japan.
Under the 2026 theme 'ACTION! For the Children of the Future,' every TBS employee will seriously consider what they can do now for children and take concrete actions through programs and events.
■ Rikako Ikee (Swimming) and Tokito Oda (Wheelchair Tennis) as Support Ambassadors
Ambassadors Rikako Ikee, selected for the Asian Games swimming team, and Tokito Oda, the youngest-ever career Golden Slam winner in wheelchair tennis, will boost the WEEK. They will appear in many programs during the period, focusing on goals such as 'Good Health and Well-being' and 'Quality Education' through the lens of sports.
Furthermore, the SNS collaboration campaign 'ACTION! 2-choice Which' will return. Performers from popular TBS programs, including lead actors from April dramas like Sunday Theater 'GIFT,' Tuesday Drama 'Toki Sude ni Osushi!?', and Friday Drama 'Tagusari Brothers,' will participate. Announcers from 28 JNN companies nationwide will also join to share SDGs content.
As a linked project, the hands-on SDGs event 'Earth Smiling Square 2026 Spring' will be held at Akasaka Sacas Square and surrounding areas on Saturday, May 16, and Sunday, May 17. The theme is 'Dreaming is the #Engine of the Future!'. Ahead of the 'Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya' this fall, the event will bring early sports excitement.
The TBS Akasaka BLITZ Studio will transform into a giant 'Gymnasium' exclusively for the event! Utilizing the wide space, spots for three Para-sports—wheelchair rugby, boccia, and smart fencing—will appear. For wheelchair rugby, in collaboration with the Japan Wheelchair Rugby Federation (JWRF), active national team players will visit. Visitors can ride competition wheelchairs, receive coaching, and try tackling or passing. This wheelchair rugby experience is linked with the Sunday Theater 'GIFT.' It’s a rare chance to feel the drama’s world. Strategical 'Boccia' and high-speed 'Smart Fencing' are also available for everyone to feel the power of sports.
