Power Stroke General Incorporated Association (Headquarters: Okazaki City, Aichi Prefecture; Representative: Kumiko Omori), a subsidiary of Okazaki Ryujyo Swimming Club Co., Ltd., presented a research report titled "Production of an Educational Music Video for Mastering 'Uitemate' – A Proposal for Drowning Prevention Education from a Private Swimming School" at the 16th Annual Academic Conference of the General Incorporated Association Japan Society for Drowning Prevention, held in Suita City, Osaka Prefecture on June 13–14, 2026.
Overview of the Presentation
This presentation addresses the increasing number of drowning incidents ahead of the peak water play season, proposing a new approach to drowning prevention education based on over 50 years of on-site instructional experience. Power Stroke and Okazaki Ryujyo Swimming Club Co., Ltd. are currently running a crowdfunding campaign on READYFOR to produce a music video (MV) promoting the life-saving phrase "Uitemate" to protect children from drowning accidents. This press release also includes the release of a teaser video for the MV currently in production.

【Purpose of MV Production】 The goal is to create something akin to "Minna no Uta" (Everyone's Song), where parents and children can sing and dance together, naturally internalizing water safety knowledge. By integrating it into daily life—singing at home, dancing at school, humming together at community events—we aim to solidify drowning response not just as knowledge, but as instinctive action.

Background of the Conference Presentation
◼︎ The Critical Gap Between "Knowing" and "Doing" Revealed by Survey
A nationwide survey of elementary school students conducted last year by Power Stroke and Okazaki Ryujyo Swimming Club Co., Ltd. revealed the following realities:
Fewer than half of children know the correct action when falling into water (floating on back and waiting = "Uitemate")
90% of children who know the action have never actually tried it
Only 10% have both knowledge and practice

Each year, many drowning victims not only lacked knowledge of the correct response but also failed to act despite knowing it when the emergency occurred. This highlights the limitations of knowledge-based education alone in triggering physical responses during emergencies.
There is a fundamental difference between "teaching correctly" and "making it stick." Understanding in the mind is meaningless if the body cannot respond in a crisis. Motivated by this awareness, Daishin Omori of Okazaki Ryujyo Swimming Club Co., Ltd.—the parent organization with 53 years of experience as a private swimming school—presented this research at the academic conference to share on-site insights more broadly with society.
◼︎ A Unique Civilian Solution: "Song and Dance"
Drawing on over 50 years of experience teaching children in swimming instruction, the team observed that children naturally repeat songs and dances they enjoy. Based on this, they have promoted "Uitemate" among children in Okazaki City. However, due to limited resources, expanding nationwide has been difficult. Therefore, they are now producing an educational music video (MV) that embeds "Uitemate" into song and dance, making it physically memorable.

The MV incorporates four core elements for self-protection in water emergencies: ① float and wait, ② do not attempt to swim, ③ floating posture in clothing, and ④ wait for rescue. By making it enjoyable and repeatable, the goal is to condition the body to respond instinctively in emergencies.
◼︎ Not "Water is Scary," but "Interact with Water Correctly"
Another key feature is promoting a positive attitude: instead of fear-based education like "stay away from water," the message is "water is fun, but there is a life-saving phrase." The completed MV will be provided free of charge to educational institutions, aiming for use in homes, schools, community events, and swimming schools to broaden the reach of drowning prevention education.

Message from the Representative
Kumiko Omori, Representative Director, Power Stroke General Incorporated Association
Drowning accidents happen in an instant. Whether one can take the correct action at that moment determines life or death. This conference presentation reaffirmed the unexpectedly large gap between "knowing" and "doing." That’s why education that trains the body, not just the mind, is essential. Throughout our long experience facing drowning accidents with children, no one has ever taken this issue lightly. That’s why we firmly believe that with the right tools, more lives can be saved. Ahead of the peak water play season, we sincerely ask for your continued support to deliver this MV to as many families as possible.
