Vector Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Tomohiro Murakawa), which operates under the mission "Towards a World Without Trash Cans," held the barter event "Gomi Zero Daisakusen" (Operation Zero Waste) at Vector Oimatsu Store (Kurashiki City, Okayama Prefecture) for two days from May 30 (Saturday) to 31 (Sunday), 2026, to coincide with "Trash-Free Day (May 30)." Through this event, 128 people brought in unwanted items, and 1,173 items were passed on to new owners.
Government Goal: "Reduce Clothing Waste by 25% by Fiscal Year 2030"
According to the "Action Plan for Promoting Sustainable Fashion" released by the Ministry of the Environment in March 2026, approximately 820,000 tons of clothing are newly supplied annually in Japan, while about 500,000 tons are disposed of through incineration and other methods. In response to this situation, the government has set a goal of reducing clothing waste from households by 25% by fiscal 2030 compared to fiscal 2020 levels, and expanding reuse is positioned as one of the priority measures. To address these social issues and create a space for circulating unwanted items within the region, Vector has been holding this barter event annually since 2023 to coincide with "Trash-Free Day."
Event Report: Spreading the Circle of Reuse in the Region—Passing Valued Items to the Next Owner
This year marks the fourth time the barter event "Gomi Zero Daisakusen" has been held. Even before the event started on the first day, visitors could be seen waiting for the venue to open, carrying items that had been dormant in their households, such as outgrown clothes, unused toys, and gift tableware.
Once the event started, visitors brought their items to the reception desk one after another, receiving "Gomi Zero Exchange Tickets" based on the quantity. At the venue set up in the parking lot of Vector Oimatsu Store, families were seen enjoying choosing items together, and friends searched for bargains. In addition, a sweets and drinks exchange corner was set up, and a wide range of generations attended because books, sports equipment, and household goods were included in the exchange targets. Sales and promotions of unused apparel were held simultaneously, bustling the inside of the store with many visitors.
Participants shared feedback such as, "It was great to see the items we brought being exchanged with my child," "I realized that items I intended to throw away still have value," and "Finding bargains was fun, and I want to participate next time." Over the two days, 128 people participated in the barter event, and 1,173 items were exchanged. Vector will continue to create opportunities to experience reuse more closely and contribute to the realization of a circular society.
