TAOKE ENERGY Inc. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; hereinafter "TAOKE") has applied for the "Wide-Area Certification System," a certification program by the Minister of the Environment based on the Waste Management Act, as part of its initiatives toward realizing a circular society, and has obtained approval as of May 1, 2026.

The target waste for this certification is "lithium-ion battery modules." This has allowed TAOKE to establish a system to consistently carry out the collection and recycling of used lithium-ion battery modules on a nationwide scale.

█ Background and Significance of Obtaining "Wide-Area Certification"

The "Wide-Area Certification System" is a special provision that exempts manufacturers and others from needing permits for collection, transport, and disposal in each municipality when they conduct wide-area collection and recycling of their products' waste.

In recent years, with the expansion of the grid-scale battery storage market in Japan, the importance of proper disposal and resource circulation of used storage batteries has been increasing. Particularly for lithium-ion batteries, it is anticipated that the establishment of a proper collection and recycling system will be increasingly required in the future.

As a business operator in the grid-scale battery storage field, TAOKE has been promoting the construction of a system that can handle the entire lifecycle, not only the introduction of storage batteries but also their collection and recycling after use.

█ Future Developments

Through obtaining this certification, TAOKE will promote the construction of a consistent, circular solution covering everything from the "introduction," "operation," "collection," to "recycling" of storage batteries.

Furthermore, by establishing a proper disposal system utilizing the wide-area certification, we will also work to reduce the risk of illegal dumping and improve the recycling rate. In the expanding battery-related subsidy programs, the establishment of a proper collection and recycling system is expected to become increasingly important, and we believe that obtaining this certification will also lead to strengthening our institutional response capabilities when applying for subsidies.

In parallel with our activities in the GX League, we will contribute to the realization of a decarbonized society by promoting resource circulation and reducing environmental impact throughout the entire lifecycle of storage batteries.
