Accelerating Decarbonization: Expanding Facilities Introducing Renewable Energy-Derived Electricity

Takashimaya and Toshin Development have achieved 100% renewable energy for the entire Tamagawa Takashimaya S.C. and signed a new off-site PPA contract for Nihonbashi Takashimaya S.C. Main Building to accelerate decarbonization. This contributes to an annual reduction of approximately 15,000 tons of CO2 emissions.

Takashimaya Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Osaka; President: Yoshiro Murata; hereinafter "Takashimaya") and its consolidated subsidiary Toshin Development Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Setagaya-ku, Tokyo; President: Shinsuke Kuramoto; hereinafter "Toshin Development") announce that to accelerate decarbonization efforts contributing to the suppression and mitigation of climate change, Tamagawa Takashimaya S.C. has achieved "100% renewable energy" for the entire facility, a goal that had been progressively pursued. Additionally, a new off-site PPA contract has been signed for the Nihonbashi Takashimaya S.C. Main Building for renewable energy procurement, as detailed below.

The Takashimaya Group, fulfilling its role as a platform supporting life, culture, and local communities, promotes ESG management that balances solving social issues with business growth, aiming for a sustainable society where all people can live prosperously.

As part of these efforts, since September 2019, the group has participated in "RE100," an international initiative aiming to procure 100% renewable energy (hereinafter "renewable energy") for electricity used in business activities, and has been promoting the conversion of facility electricity to renewable energy. In March 2025, three facilities—Nagareyama Ootakanomori S.C., Takashimaya Group Headquarters Building, and Yokohama Logistics Center—are expected to switch to virtually 100% renewable energy (*1), thereby achieving the KPI of "8.6% renewable energy conversion rate" for fiscal year 2025, which was set in 2020.

Meanwhile, the impact of climate change, including record high temperatures and low rainfall last summer, is becoming increasingly severe on socio-economic activities year by year. In light of this situation, our group has further promoted decarbonization efforts to suppress and mitigate climate change. This time, Tamagawa Takashimaya S.C., which uses the largest amount of electricity among the group's facilities, has been converted to virtually 100% renewable energy. This will lead to an annual reduction of approximately 15,000 tons of CO2 emissions. Tamagawa Takashimaya S.C. has been promoting sustainable urban development since its opening. In 2019, renewable energy-derived electricity was introduced in Marronnier Court, Ivy's Place, Hanamizuki Court, and the surrounding Yanagikoji area. Now, new introductions have also begun in the Main Building, South Building, West Building, and East Building, achieving "100% renewable energy" for the entire facility. We will continue to aim for sustainable urban development together with the local community, considering what the facility can do, including measures to reduce energy consumption itself.

Furthermore, a contract has been signed for the Nihonbashi Takashimaya S.C. Main Building to procure electricity through a new off-site PPA (*2). An off-site PPA is a mechanism that ensures "additionality" by establishing new renewable energy power plants in conjunction with the contract, thereby increasing new renewable energy sources in society, and also enables stable procurement of renewable energy for our company. By commencing the supply of renewable energy electricity in the future, we will further enhance our contribution to decarbonization in the medium to long term. For details on the off-site PPA initiative at Nihonbashi Takashimaya S.C. Main Building, please refer to the following press release disclosed today:

Our group will continue to regard the "global environment" as an important stakeholder and promote initiatives for realizing a decarbonized society together with customers, local communities, and business partners.

*1 Electricity that has "non-fossil value (environmental value)" derived from non-fossil power sources such as renewable energy, which is certified and assigned attribute information (tracking information) such as the power plant location to enable RE100 compliance.

*2 Off-site PPA (Off-site Power Purchase Agreement) is a mechanism where a company procures electricity and environmental value from a renewable energy power plant located separately from its own facilities, based on a long-term contract.
