Under the management philosophy of 'Always, from people.', Takashimaya Group is promoting ESG management through unique value propositions to realize a sustainable society where 'no one is left behind', as aimed by the SDGs.
Among these efforts, as part of the sustainability activity 'TSUNAGU ACTION' through our group's business operations, we are advancing the 'Depart de Loop' project, which aims for a circular society encompassing sales, collection, and recycling. We are collecting items that are no longer needed.
Furthermore, beyond reducing environmental impact, we are also striving to contribute to solving social issues. In addition to reducing food loss generated by our company, we conduct 'Food Drive activities' where unused food that cannot be consumed at home is collected and donated to food bank organizations and local welfare facilities. This aims to reduce food loss in individual households and support those in need of food.
Additionally, as a new initiative towards resource circulation and a decarbonized society, we joined the 'Fry to Fly Project' in September 2024 to reuse waste cooking oil as aviation fuel. We are collecting waste cooking oil discharged from restaurants and food floor kitchens within our group and proceeding with its recycling into Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).
The collection results for each activity in FY2025 are as follows.
■ FY2025 'Depart de Loop' Collection Volume
In 'Depart de Loop', as a new initiative in FY2025, collection campaigns were held at each Takashimaya store in April and October. By consolidating the collection of clothing (including denim, cashmere, and business suits), cosmetics, and down comforters into one location, we aimed to improve project awareness and collection convenience. Furthermore, by implementing a measure to present 'Shopping Vouchers' usable at each Takashimaya store (including specialty stores at some locations) according to the number of collected items, the collection volume increased significantly.
Also, in October of the same year, we expanded the collection bases beyond physical stores for the first time, starting to collect the same target items through online shopping and catalog mail-order sales channels. This broadened the opportunities for customer participation and led to further promotion and expansion of the collection activities.
Through these efforts, the collection volume for FY2025 reached approximately 53,000 kg, which is +142% compared to the same period of the previous year, and the cumulative total is approximately 100,000 kg. The collected items are proposed to customers as newly reborn, attractive products utilizing the recycling systems of partner companies.
Furthermore, in addition to the collection by our group's 'Depart de Loop' project, we are expanding the scope of activities so that more customers can participate, such as business partners holding clothing collections in conjunction with our campaigns. (FY2025 collection volume: approx. 18,000kg)
