In 1950, the Law for the Protection of Cultural Properties was enacted, leading the nation to protect and foster craft techniques of particularly high historical and artistic value. In line with this objective, since 1954, the Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition has been held, carefully selecting and examining works by artists across seven categories: ceramics, dyeing and weaving, lacquerware, metalwork, wood and bamboo crafts, dolls, and various other crafts, and exhibiting the selected works.

This 55th exhibition will showcase 187 selected works (including posthumous works) that passed the examination, chosen from 227 submitted works, including those by five Living National Treasures.

During the exhibition period, there will also be gallery talks by artists from each category and the award-winning artists.
