Walkway Roof
Taiyo Kogyo Corporation (Tokyo Head Office: Setagaya-ku, Tokyo; Osaka Head Office: Yodogawa-ku, Osaka; President: Yuki Nomura), which handles large-scale membrane structures (tent structures), civil engineering materials, and logistics materials, was responsible for the membrane work in the new walkway roof construction at Omura City Motorboat Racecourse / BOAT RACE Omura (Omura City, Nagasaki Prefecture). This facility is connected to an adjacent walkway roof previously constructed by our company, and a membrane material was adopted to ensure design continuity.
Omura City Motorboat Racecourse is known as the "birthplace of boat racing," where the first official boat race was held in Japan, and it is the southernmost and westernmost boat racecourse in Japan. The newly constructed walkway roof covers the pedestrian walkway leading to the parking lot extending to the east side of the facility, protecting visitors from rain, wind, and direct sunlight, and ensuring a comfortable and safe flow of movement.
The white membrane roof has a high solar reflectance of over 75%, significantly reducing harsh direct sunlight and harmful UV rays. The high translucency of the membrane creates a bright and light space where natural light passes through, characterized by a flexibility and lightness not found in other building materials. Furthermore, due to the performance of the titanium dioxide photocatalyst*1 surface treatment, organic dirt is decomposed and washed away by rainwater, providing excellent antifouling properties that maintain the white appearance over a long period.
*1 Titanium Dioxide Photocatalyst: This function absorbs sunlight (UV rays) and oxidatively decomposes organic matter. When sunlight hits a titanium dioxide photocatalyst membrane material, the phenomenon of decomposing organic dirt occurs. Additionally, titanium dioxide photocatalysts have a hydrophilic function, causing water droplets to spread horizontally and form a water film. This allows rainwater to penetrate between the membrane surface and the dirt, lifting the dirt and washing it away with the rain.
In recent years, boat racecourses have been undergoing renovations and updates aimed at attracting families and younger generations. This renovation also adopted a membrane roof to create a light and airy space as part of providing comfortable facilities.

About Taiyo Kogyo Corporation
Taiyo Kogyo is a leading company in large-scale membrane structures with over 100 years of history. At the 1970 Japan World Exposition, we realized the world's first low-rise air-supported structure for the U.S. Pavilion, which was supported solely by air pressure. Since then, we have participated in large-scale projects worldwide, including the installation of the Tokyo Dome's membrane roof and one of the world's largest dome facilities, the Millennium Dome (now The O2 Arena) in London. Furthermore, for the 2025 Osaka-Kansai Expo, we were involved in over 20 pavilions and facilities, supporting the creation of the Expo site.
With membrane structure technology, which excels in economy, constructability, translucency, and design, as our core, we are expanding our business into architecture, civil engineering, logistics, and environmental fields, supporting society's safety and security.
Together with our group companies, including TSP Taiyo Inc., which handles event consulting, and Actio Corporation, which manages facility operations, we are providing new value to society under the slogan "Softening the World. Warming the Future."
