During the online session, the instructor—who actually transitioned from the private sector to public service—will discuss the examination system for experienced hires, the benefits of transitioning into public service (from either private or public sectors), job responsibilities of civil servants, and the characteristics of individuals suited for such roles.

A Q&A session will be held on the day, allowing participants to ask the instructor various questions about experienced-hire exams and civil service careers. We will carefully answer all participant questions until the end.

*Note: In this online guidance session, participants' faces and names will not be visible to others, and entry and exit are freely allowed.

Target Audience Individuals generally in their late 20s or older with several years of professional experience in private companies or similar organizations

Content The session will begin with an overview of 'civil service exams available to working professionals,' followed by explanations of 'differences in civil service examination systems' and 'major exams for mid-career applicants.' We will explain these topics in an accessible way, even for beginners, incorporating recent trends in civil service exams. We will also cover subject areas of the general knowledge multiple-choice test (used to assess foundational academic ability in the first stage of exams) and specific preparation strategies for experienced-hire tracks, such as work experience essays and work experience interviews.

Featured Instructor

Transitioned from private enterprise to public service and also served in recruitment roles!

Instructor Tetsuya Hara, in charge of TAC's Civil Service Course for Experienced Professionals

Joined a special ward from the private sector.

Covered a wide range of roles supporting residents and staff, from frontline to back-office operations, including welfare, education, policy planning, personnel, facility management, and industrial promotion.

With over 20 years of managerial experience and having led the ward's overall administration as deputy mayor.

A truly frontline public service career!

A message from Instructor Hara to those aiming for a civil service career:

First impressions matter—'cheerful, energetic, honest, and refreshing'—these four qualities are essential. Anyone would want to work alongside someone like this, and such individuals naturally earn goodwill. Next, people who actively engage in everything. At work, always consider 'Why are we doing it this way? Is there a better method?'—those who are conscious of cost-effectiveness and think about improvements are ideal. Some may view civil servants as 'people who properly fulfill assigned duties,' but that's just one basic aspect. We are now in an era of reform and change. A proactive attitude—facing challenges head-on with residents' interests in mind—is increasingly required.
