Yamanaka Onsen in Kaga Onsenkyo is a production area for "Yamanaka Lacquerware." Yamanaka Lacquerware originated approximately 400 years ago during the Azuchi-Momoyama period. Craftsmen called 'Kijishi' (woodturners) who process and manufacture wooden items using a lathe have long been active here, boasting the highest production volume of turned wood products in Japan. In the mid-Showa era, the production of modern lacquerware incorporating plastic materials also began, and today, you can find a wide variety of Yamanaka lacquerware, not limited to traditional wooden lacquerware.
