T2 Inc. (Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director CEO: Masatomo Kumabe; hereinafter "T2") has been selected for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism's "Autonomous Truck Implementation Support Project" (*1).
With the vision of "Supporting Japan's logistics together through the utilization of autonomous driving technology," T2 aims to commence trunk line transportation using Level 4*2 autonomous trucks from fiscal year 2027 onwards, in response to the worsening truck driver shortage. To this end, since 2024, T2 has been conducting repeated demonstrations carrying cargo for leading companies in the industry using Level 2*3 autonomous trucks, with approximately 50 companies participating to date. Furthermore, starting in 2025, T2 will launch the first "commercial operation"*4 in Japan, providing regular transportation services to 21 companies (as of July 3, 2026), including major logistics companies and manufacturers that have participated in demonstrations.

In parallel with the development of these transportation services, and with Level 4 in mind, T2 is also focusing on developing the infrastructure for operating autonomous trucks. This includes the establishment of "Trans-Gate Ayase" in Kanagawa Prefecture, and "Trans-Gate Kobe Nishi" and "Trans-Gate Nishinomiya Kita" in Hyogo Prefecture in 2026, which will serve as hubs for drivers to board and alight trucks when switching between autonomous driving on expressways and manual driving on general roads. These will be the first such facilities established by a logistics company in Japan*5.
To further accelerate these steps towards Level 4, T2 applied for and has now been selected for the "Autonomous Truck Implementation Support Project" by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. This project subsidizes a portion of costs for private companies working on the social implementation of trunk line transportation using autonomous trucks, including the introduction of autonomous vehicles, and the development/renovation of logistics bases and systems compatible with autonomous vehicles.
"Trans-Gate Ayase"
Leveraging this subsidy, T2 will continue to proceed with the introduction of vehicles for autonomous trucks, as well as work on building operations for the future mass production of autonomous trucks. T2 has already commenced demonstrations of "one round trip between Kanto and Kansai per day" with 7 logistics companies since January 2026, ahead of other companies, to confirm the operations required for continuous driving, which is a prerequisite for Level 4*6. As a development of this initiative, T2 will newly begin demonstrations of simultaneous operation of multiple autonomous trucks between Kanto and Kansai, and actual utilization of the Trans-Gates in Kanto and Kansai, to rapidly establish the operations required for Level 4.
Furthermore, to establish a foundation for smoothly operating such multi-vehicle operations, T2 will also begin verification for the implementation of a system that enables information sharing with shippers and cooperating transportation companies. Through these industry-leading activities, T2 will further accelerate preparations for the realization of Level 4.
