Tokyo, Japan — May 7, 2026 — Synology today announced the launch of the FS6420 and FS3420, all-flash block and file storage systems designed for latency-sensitive enterprise workloads. The new systems significantly enhance IOPS and throughput performance for on-premise virtualization, databases, and enterprise applications.
"More organizations than ever are running demanding on-premises workloads and require storage that can keep up," said Jeffrey Huang, Product Manager at Synology. "The FS6420 and FS3420 offer significantly higher IOPS compared to previous models, improving performance for latency-sensitive workloads. They are an ideal choice for mid-to-large businesses and colocation environments looking to deploy enterprise applications and virtualization workloads."
Enhanced Enterprise Performance and Proven Reliability
The FS6420 and FS3420 are powerful 24-bay, 2U rackmount systems that deliver exceptional I/O responsiveness and significant performance improvements over their predecessors. The FS6420 achieves over 929,000 IOPS for reads and 257,000 IOPS for writes, representing increases of 40% and 26% respectively*. Similarly, the FS3420 achieves over 478,000 IOPS for reads and 169,000 IOPS for writes, with read and write performance improving by 21% and 32% respectively. Both models also boast over 60% improvement in SMB read throughput, making them ideal for high-bandwidth file sharing.
Beyond speed, both models offer flexible connectivity. They come standard with dual built-in 10GbE ports and support seamless compatibility with high-speed network infrastructure by integrating optional 25GbE or Fibre Channel adapters**.
Reliability is central to their design. Both units feature redundant power supplies, eliminating single points of failure. The integrated 10GbE network also supports failover and load balancing to ensure continuous uptime. Additionally, out-of-band management capabilities allow administrators to troubleshoot remotely and access system logs even when the server is powered off.
Designed for Demanding Workloads
Powered by Synology DiskStation Manager (DSM), the FS6420 and FS3420 bring the full capabilities of Synology's software ecosystem to enterprise environments:
- Broad platform compatibility: Both systems are certified for use in VMware® vSphere®, Microsoft® Hyper-V®, Citrix®, and OpenStack environments.
- High-load workflow support: The combination of high-speed networking and all-flash performance enables both systems to handle data- and network-intensive workloads. They are also ideal for video post-production and large-scale CAD projects where multiple users access large files via SMB or NFS.
- Intelligent storage tiering: Synology Tiering manages data across performance and capacity tiers to maximize storage efficiency. The FS6420 and FS3420 act as high-performance hot tiers, ensuring flash capacity and IOPS headroom for critical workloads.
- Built-in data protection: Utilize Active Backup for Business to back up unlimited virtual machines from physical servers, and Snapshot Replication to achieve instant recovery points and granular restores at the volume, folder, and file level, meeting RPO and RTO objectives.
Availability
The FS6420 and FS3420 will be available worldwide starting May 7, 2026, through Synology's partner and reseller network. For more information, please visit the respective FS6420 and FS3420 product pages.
Note:
*Performance figures are internal test results from Synology. Actual performance may vary depending on the test environment, usage, and configuration. For more details on performance
