Synchro Food Inc., operator of 'AgriJob,' a recruitment service specializing in the food and agriculture sectors, launched a practical industry-academia collaborative course with the Department of Food Science, Faculty of Food Science at Jissen Women's University, starting in April 2026.
The course aims to provide students interested in food with a deep understanding of the entire food industry, extending beyond food manufacturers to include primary industry, distribution, and food service. By partnering with companies covering the 'upstream' to 'downstream' of the food industry, the program offers an opportunity to learn across the entire sector, fostering students' problem-finding, proposal-making, and collaborative skills.
Background: Creating Opportunities to Learn About the Broad Food Industry While many students are interested in food, career paths often concentrate on specific companies or occupations like food manufacturing. Amid this, the entire food industry, including primary sectors, suffers from chronic labor shortages and a skewed distribution of talent. This is partly due to limited opportunities for students to know the appeal of roles in broader areas such as primary industry, distribution, and food service.
This course is designed to address this by providing a bird's-eye view of the food supply chain, encouraging students to perceive the industry and work from diverse perspectives.
Industry-Academia Collaboration Covering the Entire Supply Chain Launched in April 2026, the course covers areas from primary production (upstream) like agriculture and livestock, to manufacturers and wholesalers (midstream), and food service and retail (downstream).
In each session, partner companies introduce their industry and work content, and share challenges they face. Students engage in research, discussions, solution development, and propose ideas to companies—following an 'input -> analysis -> output' process to deepen understanding.
In the first session (April 25), Synchro Food explained the overall overview. The second session (May 9) featured Kushima Aoi Farm Co., Ltd. (sweet potato production, distribution, and sales) teaching students. Future sessions include lectures by Jojoen Co., Ltd. (yakiniku restaurant management and product sales) scheduled for September 15 and 16, and other industry collaborations are planned.
Future Outlook Going forward, the company plans to enhance the program based on findings from this course. It remains committed to activities that bridge industry and education to expand the talent base in the food industry and support diverse career choices.
