"Nakano Sunplaza Projection Mapping - To be continued -" Receives Excellence Award at "Projection Mapping Tokyo Award"

The "Nakano Sunplaza Projection Mapping - To be continued -", produced in collaboration with various companies from the Shin Unity Group and organized by Nakano City, has received the Excellence Award at the "Projection Mapping Tokyo Award" announced by the Tokyo Convention and Visitors Bureau on March 24, 2026.

For this project, Simdirect Inc. was in charge of production, SWAG Inc. handled the creative aspects, Takenaka Corporation managed the technical side, Tepros Co., Ltd. was responsible for installation, and Prestons Co., Ltd. created the music.

The "Projection Mapping Tokyo Award" is an awards program implemented by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and the Tokyo Convention and Visitors Bureau as part of initiatives to promote Tokyo's nighttime appeal. Its purpose is to recognize projection mapping projects that enhance Tokyo's nighttime tourism and to promote tourism both domestically and internationally. This year's call for entries received 45 submissions, with three works, including this project, receiving awards.

"Nakano Sunplaza Projection Mapping - To be continued -" was a citizen-participation projection mapping event held at Nakano Sunplaza, which closed its doors after over 50 years of history.

The project aimed to create a unified landscape, where memories associated with Nakano Sunplaza would emerge through the building, incorporating drawings and messages collected from residents beforehand, illustrations created through the workshop "Nakano Art Note," and music and direction from artists connected to the facility.

Through regional collaboration and cooperation, it provided an opportunity for people of all ages, both within and outside Nakano City, to gather and share experiences, fostering a sense of love for Nakano and Nakano Sunplaza among many.

The award recognized the project for its successful fusion of Nakano's unique pop culture elements with regional revitalization, using Nakano Sunplaza, a symbolic place deeply cherished by the local community, as its stage. It also highlighted the originality of the music and visual presentation, which evoked the potential to evolve into world-class art and entertainment, and its promise as a sustainable tourism resource.

Encouraged by this award, the Shin Unity Group will continue to strive in creating experiences that harness local culture, memories, and the sentiments of the people.

Work Description

A citizen-participation projection mapping event that served as the final spectacle for Nakano Sunplaza, which concluded its over 50-year history.

The intention was to create a unified landscape, where memories associated with Nakano Sunplaza would emerge through the building, by incorporating drawings and messages collected from residents beforehand, illustrations created through the workshop titled "Nakano Art Note," and music and direction from artists connected to the facility.
