Symphotony Co., Ltd. has recently started importing and selling the underwater LiDAR products 'TF-UW500' and 'VLS-H5' from Benewake (hereinafter referred to as 'Benewake'). Both products are LiDAR systems designed for underwater sensing applications such as underwater robots and pool cleaning robots.

The 'TF-UW500' is a single-point LiDAR designed for underwater environments. It uses the dToF (direct Time-of-Flight) method and features specifications of an underwater measurement distance > 5 m and a FoV of 0.5°. It is highly compact, with a small size of 24 × 16 × 20.4 mm and a weight of < 5 g, making it suitable for integration into underwater robots and various embedded devices. It is a distance sensor that supports precise mapping, stable self-localization, and highly straight navigation control. In addition, it is Class 1 eye-safe compliant, ensuring a design that takes safety into consideration.

The 'VLS-H5' is a 360° single-line scanning LiDAR for underwater use. It acquires distance data through six 360° scans per second, which can be utilized for mapping and self-localization when combined with SLAM technology. The measurement distance is > 5 m in clear water and > 1.5 m under turbidity conditions of NTU ≤ 4. It features a scan angle of 360°, a frame rate of 6 Hz, a UART communication interface, and an IPX8 protection rating, supporting long-term stable operation in environments up to 4 m deep. Like the 'TF-UW500', it is Class 1 eye-safe compliant, ensuring safety in underwater environments.

While both products are LiDARs intended for underwater applications, their roles differ. The TF-UW500 is a compact and lightweight model suitable for high-precision single-point distance acquisition, whereas the VLS-H5 is a model that supports distance data acquisition through 360° scanning. Therefore, they can be selected based on equipment size constraints, required sensing methods, and the necessity of mapping.
