Background and Objectives

In recent years, the waste treatment sector for municipalities and businesses has faced structural challenges, including the aging of incineration facilities, increased burden of renewal investments, growing environmental impact from long-distance transportation of waste to treatment facilities, and a shortage of drivers in the reverse logistics industry. Particularly in rural areas and during disaster situations, there is a strong demand for the establishment of flexible and sustainable waste treatment methods that do not rely on existing centralized treatment infrastructure.

JOYCLE is developing a decentralized small-scale upcycling plant, "JOYCLE BOX," with the concept of "Don't transport waste, don't burn it, recycle it." This device employs a thermal decomposition (carbonization) method using electric heaters. As it does not involve combustion, it can significantly reduce waste volume while suppressing smoke, odor, and noise. By installing the device near the waste generation source, it eliminates the need for long-distance transportation to incineration facilities, contributing to reduced logistics burden and treatment costs. It aims to solve the structural challenges in waste treatment faced by municipalities and businesses as a decentralized infrastructure independent of existing large-scale incineration facilities. Furthermore, the biochar and ceramic ash produced after treatment can be upcycled into building materials and various other materials, contributing to the creation of a circular model that converts waste into resources.

Suzuyo Shoji will accelerate the creation of new value and social implementation in the waste treatment field by combining JOYCLE's decentralized upcycling solutions with its own customer base and business assets in the energy and environmental domains.
