Socioak SEED BASE Nagatoro Genki Plaza (Location: Nagatoro-machi, Chichibu-gun, Saitama Prefecture; Designated Administrator: Sun Amenity Co., Ltd.) will hold a 2-day, 1-night experiential event, "Gibier and Blades ~Connecting Forests and Food~," from May 9 (Saturday) to May 10 (Sunday), 2026, to deeply learn about the connection between nature and food.

In this event, participants will experience "life and food production" from multiple perspectives, including deer butchering, a lecture on the culture of "blades" as tools, and tasting and cooking gibier dishes, which are rarely encountered in daily life. In the beautiful fresh green landscape of Nagatoro, under the safe and secure environment unique to a prefectural facility, we will provide a special experience for parents and children or groups to cultivate "the power to live."

In recent years, while damage to agriculture and forestry by wild birds and animals has become a social problem, efforts to effectively utilize their lives as "gibier (wild game meat)" have attracted attention. However, there are not many opportunities to learn about the process by which the meat on our tables arrives.

We wanted to provide this "cycle of life" not just as knowledge, but as an "experience" to touch and taste with one's own hands. We also aim to focus on the culture of "blades," which are important tools supporting food, and to convey the meaning of using tools correctly and cherishing forest resources to the next generation of children and their families.

■ Learn "Authentic" Experiences from Expert Instructors

On the first day, Tomoaki Asako, a director of the NPO Whole Earth Nature School, will be invited as an instructor to conduct a deer butchering workshop. Following this, nature journalist Tsutomu Kakumatsu will teach about the relationship between blades and culture. It is a very luxurious program where participants can learn directly from leading instructors.

■ The Joy of "Food" You Make and Taste Yourself

Participants will experience cooking and tasting deer meat after butchering, and for lunch on the second day, authentic deer meat burgers from the popular local restaurant "Sakurakaze" will be provided. While fully enjoying the deliciousness of gibier, participants can feel the preciousness of life.

■ Safety and Rich Nature Unique to a Prefectural Facility

"Nagatoro Genki Plaza," the venue, is a Saitama Prefectural social education facility. Participants can fully enjoy the extraordinary experience in a safe facility environment and the rich nature of Nagatoro.

■ Staff Comment

"The word 'gibier' has become familiar, but the opportunity to experience the reality of the forest behind it and the weight of butchering life is precious. Through these two days, we hope that participants will not only enjoy delicious gibier but also feel 'gratitude to nature' and 'the importance of tools' that are necessary for us to live. We look forward to your challenge!"
