Innovative Delivery Box “Hakohu okihai” That Can Be Rolled Indoors to Launch on Makuake

With the spread of online shopping, the number of parcels handled by domestic courier services in Japan reached approximately 5.07 billion in fiscal 2023, an increase of about 40% compared with 10 years earlier (*1). One major issue is redelivery, which occurs for around 10% of these parcels (*2). Amid labor shortages in the transportation industry, redelivery increases the burden on drivers and also raises CO2 emissions. Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism is promoting wider adoption of diverse receiving methods, including unattended delivery, to reduce redeliveries. However, unattended delivery has raised concerns such as “it is heavy to carry packages from the entrance into the home,” “packages may get dirty,” and “packages may be stolen.” To solve these issues, Sun-Lit Kikaku Co., Ltd. (headquartered in Nagoya), which plans and manufactures novelty, premium, and OEM products and has produced a cumulative total of 3,800 items, has developed the innovative delivery box “Hakohu okihai.” Rather than simply storing packages at the front door, it allows heavy and bulky parcels to be “carried indoors.” Since packages are not placed directly on the ground, it protects valuable deliveries from mud, dust, and moisture. It also uses water-repellent fabric, reducing the risk of contents getting wet during sudden rain. Users can simply roll the carrier and move it smoothly. It can be easily moved indoors even while opening the door with one hand. Feature 2: Box can be detached and carried to a room The main box can be easily removed from the carrier. Handles on both sides allow users to lift it and bring it indoors as is, without taking packages out one by one. The load capacity is 20 kg. It can also comfortably receive heavy items such as beverage cases and daily necessities. Users can receive packages cleanly in the condition they arrived. Feature 5: Water-repellent finish The water-repellent material helps shed water during sudden rain and reduces the risk of packages getting wet, enabling unattended delivery that is less affected by weather. Against this backdrop, I personally saw a couple living nearby carrying heavy packages to their entrance and realized that there are also burdens on the receiving side. While unattended delivery is convenient, carrying packages afterward can be a major burden. This realization led to the development of this product.
