Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Club Co., Ltd., JPYC Inc., and HashPort Inc. have announced that reward points earned through Diners Club and TRUST CLUB cards can be exchanged for the Japanese Yen stablecoin 'JPYC' starting June 1, 2026. This service represents Japan's first framework for converting credit card points into stablecoins.
The exchange process is facilitated through 'HashPort Wallet,' a non-custodial wallet provided by HashPort. By converting points to JPYC, users can utilize their rewards for payments at physical and e-commerce stores, transactions within Web3 services, and near-instant, low-cost peer-to-peer remittances.
To commemorate the launch, a 'Point Back Campaign' will run from June 1 to November 30, 2026. For every 1,000 JPYC exchanged (from 2,500 Diners Club points or 4,000 TRUST CLUB points), 500 points will be rewarded back to the user. These points are scheduled to be credited in mid-January 2027.
Nobuaki Yamaguchi, President of Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Club, stated: 'This is our first step in a challenge to link credit card points with stablecoins, a globally trending next-generation payment method. It breathes new value into our points, which have no expiration date.' Noritaka Okabe, CEO of JPYC, expressed pride in being chosen as an exchange destination and looks forward to the synergy between existing payment systems and blockchain technology.
