Contributing to the Stable Supply of Safe and Secure Water in Karatsu City for the Future: Contract Signing and Start of Design/Construction for the 'Kuri No. 1 Water Treatment Plant Reconstruction Project'

Suido Kiko Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Setagaya-ku, Tokyo; President: Toru Furukawa; hereinafter "Suido Kiko"), whose main business is the design, construction, and management of water and sewage facilities as well as environmental conservation and sanitation facilities, announces that it officially signed a contract in March 2026 (Reiwa 8) for the 'Kuri No. 1 Water Treatment Plant Reconstruction Project' in Karatsu City, Saga Prefecture, and entered the design and construction phase starting April of the same year.

This project aims to solve issues such as the aging of the 'Kuri No. 1 Water Treatment Plant,' a core water treatment facility in Karatsu City, by constructing a new plant on an adjacent site and relocating its functions. It will be implemented using the 'Design-Build (DB) Method,' which leverages the know-how and ingenuity of the private sector.

In the water supply sector in recent years, driven by aging facilities and a shortage of human resources, there has been an increasing adoption of 'Water PPPs' (Public-Private Partnerships) that utilize the technical capabilities of private companies from design to construction, operation, and maintenance. Through participation in DB method projects responsible for design and construction, Suido Kiko will enhance its ability to respond to the Water PPP market, which is expected to expand in the future, and contribute to the realization of sustainable water infrastructure.

[Background of Construction Implementation]
The 'Kuri No. 1 Water Treatment Plant,' a core facility in Karatsu City, was completed in 1971 (Showa 46), but a long period has passed since it began operation, and issues such as aging and insufficient earthquake resistance have become major problems. In addition, there are plans to abolish the Watada Water Treatment Plant and Kanda Water Treatment Plant in the future and integrate them into the 'Kuri No. 1 Water Treatment Plant' system, making it play a more crucial role as a core facility.

Therefore, to stably supply high-quality, safe, and secure water into the future, a plan was made to build a new water treatment plant on an adjacent site and relocate operations.

The project features three core concepts: 'A water treatment plant resilient to natural disasters,' 'An easily maintainable water treatment plant,' and 'A highly energy-efficient water treatment plant.' Suido Kiko is in charge of the mechanical (water treatment plant equipment) field and will contribute to building a sustainable system that can stably supply high-quality, safe water. We will proceed with the development of this facility by fully utilizing the water treatment technology and know-how possessed by Suido Kiko.

[Kuri No. 1 Water Treatment Plant Reconstruction and Relocation Project]
Based on the 'Karatsu City Waterworks Enterprise Vision' and 'Karatsu City Water Facility Development Plan,' we aim to build a sustainable water supply system. The reconstruction of the water treatment plant through this project is an important initiative to achieve safe and secure water services through disaster countermeasures and facility renewal.

Because the core 'Kuri No. 1 Water Treatment Plant' (completed in 1971) faces challenges with aging and insufficient seismic performance, it was decided to construct and relocate to a new water treatment plant on an adjacent site, downsizing from the current facility capacity of 33,200 m³/day to 24,000 m³/day.
