Regarding Feature Page Inclusion

■Background for Launching the Feature Page: Connecting Diverse Fields Surrounding Children's "Food" with a Network of Solidarity

In contemporary Japan, various structural challenges exist in the environment surrounding children's "food." There are households for whom stable access to meals is hindered due to economic and social circumstances. Furthermore, issues arise in multiple aspects of life, welfare, and education, such as situations forcing children to eat alone due to weakened community ties, a lack of food safety nets during long school breaks when school lunches are not provided, and a decrease in opportunities to experience food culture.

In response to these challenges, community hubs like "Kodomo Shokudo" (children's cafeterias), where children can eat safely, are steadily expanding, with a projected 12,602 locations nationwide by fiscal year 2025 (Note 2). However, on the other hand, approximately 4.64 million tons of food loss are generated annually in Japan (estimated for fiscal year 2023) (Note 3). The "structural inequality in food resources and access," where children's right to food is not fully guaranteed, remains a significant issue that society as a whole must confront.

June of each year is designated as "Food Education Month" by the government, and many non-profit organizations strengthen their activities during this time. However, many organizations working on the front lines have expressed concerns such as, "We want to widely communicate the necessity of our activities, but individual outreach has its limits," and "Even when we launch donation campaigns, it's difficult to create opportunities to broaden recognition."

Therefore, Syncable will launch a feature page to introduce organizations working in various ways to improve children's access to food and create secure environments. This includes local Kodomo Shokudo, food pantries that help families access necessary food items, food banks linked to food loss reduction, and activities that provide learning experiences about diverse food cultures, including Japanese cuisine and dashi. Through this feature, we aim to visualize the background of social issues, the activities of each organization, and the use of donations, creating a space where individuals, companies, and community stakeholders who are interested can discover organizations and projects they can continuously engage with after understanding the issues.

■Regarding Inclusion in the June "Food Education Month" Feature Page

Starting today, we are accepting applications for donation campaigns (projects) to be featured on this special page (hosted on Syncable's official note).

The feature page will showcase donation campaigns on Syncable that are being conducted through a wide range of approaches, such as creating local community spaces, providing food support to families linked with food loss reduction, and conducting food education workshops that engage the senses. We aim to create a platform where media representatives and the general public can understand the current situation and background of issues related to children's "food," the activities of each organization, and how donations are used, enabling them to find support destinations (donation recipients) that align with their interests and empathy.
