In response to the approaching powerful Typhoon Bavi, the Kaohsiung City Government has fully activated typhoon preparedness measures. On the 10th, Deputy Mayor Lin Chin-jung inspected the Public Works Bureau's disaster prevention readiness and tree reinforcement at Minsheng Roundabout, urging all departments to implement proactive deployment and comprehensively strengthen typhoon countermeasures for communities, construction sites, and public facilities to minimize potential damage from wind and rain.
The Public Works Bureau stated that, according to forecasts from the Central Weather Bureau, Typhoon Bavi may bring strong winds, heavy rainfall, and high waves to Kaohsiung. Therefore, all 7,596 apartment building management organizations and property management companies in the city have been notified to conduct comprehensive inspections of building public facilities, doors and windows, outdoor equipment, and flood prevention systems. Residents are also reminded to prepare sandbags and waterproof gates in advance and complete all flood prevention preparations to reduce damage from flooding and strong winds.
The Public Works Bureau requires construction units to conduct self-inspections, including typhoon preparedness for tower cranes, scaffolding, dust control nets, advertising tarps, power distribution equipment, and drainage systems. Through industry associations and communication platforms, disaster prevention information is being disseminated in real time, requiring construction sites to report their self-inspection results while strengthening inspections to ensure construction safety.
The bureau reminds that according to regulations, during typhoons, tower crane booms must have their brakes released so the boom can rotate freely with the wind, reducing wind resistance and structural damage risks. Construction can only resume after the typhoon passes and a safety inspection confirms no issues.
Additionally, Deputy Mayor Lin visited Minsheng Roundabout to inspect typhoon preparations for street trees,慰问ed frontline workers, and requested the Parks Department under the Public Works Bureau to continue strengthening citywide pruning, support fixation for street trees, and streetlight inspections. Emergency repair equipment and personnel are also being prepared so that immediate response can occur in case of disasters, quickly restoring traffic and urban appearance.
Public Works Bureau Director Yang Chin-fu stated that comprehensive inspections of parks, street trees, and public lighting facilities are now underway to enhance trees’ wind resistance and reduce the risk of falling or branch breakage. An emergency response team has been established and is on standby to ensure rapid disaster response during the typhoon, maintaining public safety for citizens.
The Public Works Bureau also reminds citizens to check whether signs, tarps, water tanks, outdoor air conditioning units, and other suspended objects at home are securely fastened before the typhoon arrives. Avoid parking vehicles under large street trees to collectively prepare for the typhoon, reduce disaster risks, and protect lives and property.
