STATION Ai Inc. (Headquarters: Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture, President and CEO: Hirotaka Sahashi, hereinafter "STATION Ai") will establish a data collection center for physical AI, "STATION Ai Data Foundry" (hereinafter "the Center"), within its headquarters to accelerate the societal implementation of physical AI in the manufacturing industry, aiming for operation to begin in December 2026.
This initiative has been selected for the "Post-5G Information Communication System Foundation Strengthening Research and Development Project / Research and Development on Data Ecosystem Construction, etc. (GENIAC)" (※), a subsidized project publicly solicited by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and NEDO (New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization). STATION Ai will accelerate the societal implementation of physical AI in the Tokai region by building a data ecosystem that enables the integration and utilization of data held by manufacturing companies, AI startups, robot-related companies, and system integrators, and by serving as a hub to support the implementation of physical AI.

Background
Amidst challenges such as labor shortages and the succession of skilled craftsmanship in Japan's manufacturing industry, expectations are growing for physical AI as a means to achieve automation and advancement in production sites. However, real-world data, essential for the development of physical AI, is managed dispersedly by each company and site, leading to insufficient accumulation and sharing of data for AI model training and development, which poses a significant challenge to societal implementation.
In particular, tasks such as assembly, picking, inspection, and parts conveyance in manufacturing sites exhibit significant variations by site and diversity in objects, making them difficult to address with conventional rule-based automation. To utilize physical AI in these areas, a mechanism is required to continuously collect and accumulate high-quality data rooted in actual manufacturing sites, leading to the development and implementation of AI models.
About "STATION Ai Data Foundry"
As one of Japan's largest open innovation hubs located in Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture, STATION Ai forms a community where startups, businesses, universities, local governments, and financial institutions gather. Based on this community, the Center will operate as a hub connecting the on-site challenges of the manufacturing industry with the technologies of startups in the AI and robotics fields.

The Center will identify tasks in manufacturing sites where a return on investment (ROI) can be expected, and by focusing on the collection and demonstration of data necessary for the implementation of physical AI for those tasks, it will create use cases leading to societal implementation. With the goal of commencing operations in December 2026, it will develop a data collection infrastructure necessary for the implementation of physical AI for the manufacturing industry and promote the creation of an environment that supports AI model development and verification, as well as the demonstration of robot utilization in manufacturing sites.
For data collection and model development, STATION Ai will collaborate with Tron Inc. (President: Kei Washijima), a startup located within STATION Ai, to promote the collection and processing of worker multimodal data, integration with robot data, and model verification.
Furthermore, for the selection of target tasks in manufacturing and the organization of on-site challenges, STATION Ai will collaborate with Boostech Inc. (President: Naoo Nagai (Monozukuri Taro)) to prioritize tasks that are expected to yield a return on investment (ROI), such as improved productivity and labor saving, not only in terms of technical feasibility, but also to design use cases that align with the actual challenges of manufacturing sites.
Physical AI Ecosystem Aimed for by STATION Ai
STATION Ai aims to form an ecosystem where not only a data ecosystem is built to provide a data collection environment, but also where diverse players related to physical AI, such as AI model development companies, robot manufacturers, parts/material manufacturers, data infrastructure/provider companies, system integrators, and user companies, can gather, and where companies with challenges can meet companies with solutions to co-create.
Through these initiatives, STATION Ai will provide manufacturing companies with opportunities to match with AI/robot technologies and demonstration partners that can solve on-site challenges, and for AI/robot-related companies, it will create co-creation opportunities with user companies that have clear needs and demonstration opportunities. As a hub where necessary information, technologies, human resources, and demonstration opportunities converge, it will accelerate the societal implementation of physical AI.
Specifically, it will consolidate on-site challenges and demonstration opportunities from the manufacturing industry and materialize use cases with physical AI startups and robot-related companies. Subsequently, it will promote initiatives leading to societal implementation by materializing use cases with physical AI startups and robot-related companies, and proceeding with data collection, model development, and demonstrations. Furthermore, it will confirm the potential for on-site implementation through data collection and model development at the Center and actual manufacturing sites. The results will then be disseminated both within and outside the STATION Ai community, leading to the creation of new participating companies and use cases.
This will build an ecosystem where data, models, on-site knowledge, and implementation know-how are continuously accumulated and circulated, rather than being limited to one-off demonstrations. STATION Ai aims to become a hub for the implementation of physical AI in the manufacturing sector, starting with this initiative.

Future Developments
Towards the commencement of operations at the Center in December 2026, STATION Ai will collaborate with manufacturing companies in Aichi Prefecture and the Tokai region to conduct demonstrations starting with assembly, picking, inspection, and parts conveyance tasks where the introduction of physical AI is expected to yield benefits, aiming to create future use cases.
Additionally, STATION Ai will expand collaboration with startups gathered at STATION Ai and other AI/robotics-related companies to promote the verification and support for the introduction of physical AI applicable to manufacturing sites. In the future, it aims to deploy the results obtained in the Tokai region to manufacturing industries nationwide and contribute to the creation of a physical AI industry originating in Japan.
