Starbucks Coffee Japan, Ltd. [Headquarters: Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director and CEO: Hisae Morii] will open 'Starbucks Coffee & Art Gallery Yanaka Gotenzaka' on Saturday, March 28, 2026. Located in the Yanaka district of Tokyo—a place rich in history, culture, and art—this store is designed to nurture the future through art by co-creating with local young artists, art students, and the community.

■ A One-of-a-Kind Experience Expressing 'The Intersection of Art and Coffee'
'Starbucks Coffee & Art Gallery Yanaka Gotenzaka' is a two-story wooden store based on the concept of 'the intersection of art and coffee,' paying tribute to the history and culture of Yanaka Gotenzaka. Inspired by the 'kanban' (signboard) architecture passed down in the Gotenzaka area since the Taisho era, the design reflects a desire to cherish the local history and harmony with the streetscape. The entrance is accessed via a path reminiscent of the alleyways scattered throughout Yanaka, and customers are welcomed by partners (employees) from the bar counter just past the door. In the center of the store, an atrium connects the first and second floors, allowing the aroma of coffee and the energy of the partners to be felt from the second floor; it also captures natural light from above, and art pieces are displayed to bridge the two spaces. Even in the brief time before receiving their coffee, customers can enjoy the large art pieces displayed in the atrium or take in the view of the alley and neighboring greenery from the facing windows, truly experiencing 'the intersection of art and coffee.' The first floor has 22 seats, including arrangements that allow customers to feel the bustle and vitality of the neighborhood, and 12 pieces of art are displayed on the interior walls.

■ Second Floor Composed of Four Spaces with Unique Yanaka Gotenzaka Touches
Ascending the central staircase, the second floor features four areas where customers can spend time as they please alongside 24 art pieces. The first is a mezzanine counter seating area where customers can enjoy coffee while looking out over the streetscape. The second is a central area with a large community table, providing prime seating to view the works up close. The third and fourth areas are located on the north and west sides and have slightly lowered floor levels. To provide a more dynamic experience of the store's construction, which faces temple grounds—a key feature of this site—large windows have been installed to 'borrow' the scenery of the temple's temple buildings and plantings. In the north area, where one can feel the lush greenery and tranquility of the temple, guests can sit on sofa seats and view art while feeling connected to nature. The west side features sofa, table, and 'koagari' (raised floor) seating, allowing families and those with children to relax. The same art can look different depending on the time of day or where you sit, allowing customers to find their favorite works and seats as if strolling through the town of Yanaka.

Furthermore, the art in the store is rotated regularly, and encountering various works by chance is one of the joys of this store. Within the landscape of Yanaka Gotenzaka, we aim to deliver a one-of-a-kind Starbucks experience where you can enjoy unexpected discoveries and time along with your coffee. We hope that this place, where Starbucks' coffee experience intersects with the sensibilities of the next generation of young artists, will serve as a casual gateway to art, providing a special, stimulating time amidst everyday life.

'Starbucks Coffee & Art Gallery Yanaka Gotenzaka' was designed and built by HAGISO Co., Ltd., which is based in Yanaka and develops its business from architecture and design to store operations while valuing connections with the local community.
