Following amendments to the GX Promotion Act, Japan's domestic emissions trading system officially commenced on April 1, 2026. This system has been designed under Japan’s vision for carbon neutrality and a 'growth-oriented carbon pricing' model that balances environmental and economic goals. Additionally, an increasing number of companies are actively engaging in carbon credit transactions for purposes such as corporate carbon offsetting and integrating credits into their own services. Recently, some companies have even begun participating in project development using the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM).
