Gravel Wheels Optimized for Speed: Latest Terra Series Models Debut Simultaneously
Roval has introduced two new gravel wheelsets, the Terra Aero CLX and Terra CLX III, designed to deliver superior performance for both racing and daily riding. These models inherit the strengths of their predecessors while incorporating innovative aerodynamic shapes, advanced carbon composite spokes, and significantly improved puncture resistance.

The newly launched Terra Aero CLX and Terra CLX III are a wheel lineup designed to provide overwhelming performance in every scenario, from gravel racing to daily gravel rides.
These wheelsets combine the lightness of low-mass carbon with reliable handling, evolving while inheriting the strengths of the previous Terra CLX II.
The latest models feature innovative aerodynamic shapes, carbon composite spokes, overwhelming durability, and significantly improved puncture resistance.
They push the potential of gravel wheels into an entirely new realm.
In current gravel racing, aerodynamic performance at a level previously required only in WorldTour road racing has become essential. Riders are now using wider tires, riding on rough roads with high intensity, and entering speed ranges where the influence of air resistance cannot be ignored.
To meet these new needs, Roval has prepared these two options.
Terra Aero CLX | Reliable Aerodynamic Performance Where It Matters Most
To create the fastest gravel wheel in Roval history, the Terra Aero CLX development team digitally verified over 300 rim shapes.
Unlike road wheels, gravel wheels are often paired with thick, high-volume tires and are frequently ridden at relatively low speeds in turbulent wind, requiring stability and predictable behavior. Therefore, Roval prioritized behavior at complex yaw angles, not just pure air resistance, and evaluated aerodynamic performance with gravel tires actually installed.
For example, it was found that when a Tracer 45c tire is combined with a rim, even a shape that looks fast on its own causes airflow turbulence at the junction of the tire and rim, losing aerodynamic benefits. With the narrower shapes derived from road rims, the tire protrudes from the rim, causing airflow separation there.
For the Terra Aero CLX, Roval addressed this challenge by adopting a wide cross-sectional shape with an external width of 38.5mm. It is compatible with tires from 35 to 60mm wide, and the rounded rim profile draws a natural line with the shoulder of high-volume tires, significantly reducing airflow separation behind the tread.
The newly adopted Chopped Aero Speed shape (a unique aero cross-section with the trailing edge cut off) delivers aerodynamic performance comparable to a 70mm height front wheel. Moreover, it achieves reliable aero effects without incurring weight increases. In tests at our in-house Win Tunnel wind tunnel facility, we recorded a 5.84W reduction compared to the combination of the Terra CLX II and Tracer 45c tires.
Terra CLX III | Compliance for Winning Races
The Terra CLX III proves its worth the moment the road or terrain shows its teeth. Generating 200 rim profiles through multi-factor structural shape optimization modeling, the optimal solution derived from them is this wheelset.
It is the lightest in the current lineup (1,079g, including valves and tape) while possessing supple compliance, making it a race-spec gravel wheel. Lateral compliance is improved by 21.52%, greatly boosting comfort and control on rough roads.
Furthermore, this supple ride and high stability bring comfort and peace of mind not only in racing scenes but also in daily gravel rides. Whether on long weekend rides or adventurous routes with complex terrain, the Terra CLX III provides consistent control and smoothness.
Equipped with ARRIS Roval Composite Spokes
Both of these wheelsets, which provide riders with the choice to win, adopt ARRIS Roval aero composite spokes.
By combining a unique thermoplastic composite with a titanium head, they realize over 20% higher strength compared to steel spokes while also contributing to significant weight reduction.
Furthermore, optimized torsional stiffness allows the wheels to follow smoothly even on rough roads, improving comfort and control.
Flat Protection
No matter what trouble you encounter, "speed" only has meaning if you reach the finish line. The FlatStop bead hook has a width of up to 5.38mm on the Terra Aero CLX and 4.86mm on the Terra CLX III, dramatically suppressing the occurrence of pinch flats.
Compared to the Terra II series, which was previously the best in its class, the energy required to reach a pinch flat has increased by 91%.
Roval defines "speed" to include not just aerodynamic performance and lightness, but also the durability to finish the ride. That is the performance Roval envisions.
Roval Upgrade Program
The "Roval Upgrade Program," which allows you to get Roval wheels and cockpits at a special 15% off price when purchasing a new Specialized bike, is underway until May 15 (Friday). The newly released Terra Aero CLX and Terra CLX III are models eligible for this program.
