Seishu Memorial Museum to Exhibit at 'Hakuin's Zen' Kyoto Exhibition, Planned and Produced by Studio Ghibli

The Seishu Memorial Museum, operated as part of the cultural sponsorship initiative by Soka Printing Co., Ltd., showcases a treasured collection of artworks by artists with whom its director, Muneaki Kinoshita, has formed deep personal and professional relationships over the years.

The museum is pleased to announce that Hakuin Ekaku’s 'Lotus Pond Kannon' and 'Rat Daikoku,' both part of the Seishu Memorial Museum’s collection, will be exhibited at the 'Hakuin's Zen' Kyoto Exhibition, held at the Kyoto City KYOCERA Museum of Art, East Mountain Cube in the New Wing.

This exhibition, planned and produced by Studio Ghibli and Nippon Television, introduces the calligraphy, paintings, and Zen philosophy of Hakuin Ekaku through a combination of original artworks and immersive video content.

Notably, 'Lotus Pond Kannon' has been chosen as the official key visual for the exhibition.

About the Seishu Memorial Museum

Sharing the Possibility of Art Born from Human Connections

The core of the museum’s collection consists of exceptional works by artists such as Japanese painter Komi Kihaku, with whom Director Muneaki Kinoshita has cultivated close personal bonds through years of public and private interactions.

Guided by these human connections, the museum collects, preserves, researches, and publicly exhibits artworks—both historical pieces and new creations by contemporary artists—aiming to share the concept of 'art born from human relationships' with as many people as possible and to widely promote its potential.

Operated as part of Soka Printing’s cultural patronage program, the museum opened in April 2025. Exhibited artists include painter Komi Kihaku, doll artist Okuda Koyome, Kutani ware ceramicists Takeshi and Fuyuki Takekoshi, and lacquer artists Rakuzan and Toyoko Yamada.
