Space Market Inc. conducted a survey targeting guests (space users) following a 2.5-fold increase in the number of rental space bookings for dating purposes among teenagers compared to the previous year. In addition to the unique needs of teenagers, such as "being unable to secure private space due to living with parents," the survey highlighted voices saying, "It's hard to find places to go on rainy days" during the rainy season. Rental spaces are gradually becoming a new dating option for teenagers in the Reiwa era.

Popular Rental Spaces for Rainy Day Dates

With outdoor activities limited during the rainy season, more couples are seeking private spaces for two that can be enjoyed even on rainy days. In fact, Space Market has seen a 2.5-fold increase in rental space bookings for dating purposes among teenagers compared to the previous year. A contributing factor is that many teenagers live with their parents, making it difficult to secure private time at home. This has led to a noticeable trend during the rainy season of switching to rental spaces at the last minute due to rain forecasts. Voices such as "There's nowhere to go on rainy days" and "I live with my parents and can't have a date at home, so I'm looking for a private space away from prying eyes" have been received, indicating a growing demand for indoor spaces where couples can be alone, particularly among teenagers.

Guest Comments at the Time of Booking

- We had planned a picnic, but due to the rainy forecast, we decided to rent a space and eat our bento boxes there. The room had a lot of greenery, which I thought would fit the mood for eating a bento, so we booked it.

- I was supposed to go on a date with my boyfriend, but the forecast was for rain, so we rented a room.

- Since it was expected to rain, we changed our plans at the last minute to have an indoor date and made a reservation.

Survey Results on Teen Dating

【3 Key Topics】

1 "Dating" is the most common use of rental spaces among teenagers.

2 The most important factor in choosing a location is "low price." This is also a reason for repeat visits.

3 Most people compare rental spaces with home or karaoke. The reason for choosing a rental space is "a space where you can have fun without worrying about being seen."

1 "Dating" is the most common use of rental spaces among teenagers.

In a survey conducted among teenage guests, 29.1% cited "dating" as the most frequent use of rental spaces. This was followed by "oshi-katsu" (fan activities) at 11.7% and "girls' gatherings" at 9.7%, indicating that rental spaces are most utilized for dates among teenagers.

The reasons for use included "looking for a space where we could be alone," "neither of our homes could be used," and "wanted to try an at-home date outside of our parents' homes." This reveals that the unique circumstances of teenagers, who often live with their parents and find it difficult to secure private time at home, are a background factor in the demand for rental spaces.

2 The most important factor in choosing a location is "low price." This is also a reason for repeat visits.

When asked about the most important points when choosing a space, 87% of respondents stated that they placed great importance on low prices and cost performance. For teenagers with limited financial resources, cost performance is the biggest deciding factor.

Furthermore, when repeat visitors (those who had used the service two or more times) were asked for their reasons for repeat visits, "attractive prices and discounts" accounted for 33.3%, ranking second. The top reason was "high satisfaction with the space used" (50%), indicating that good cost performance, following satisfaction, is a key factor for teenagers to continue using rental spaces.

3 Most people compare rental spaces with home or karaoke. The reason for choosing a rental space is "a space where you can have fun without worrying about being seen."

When asked about places they compared before booking a rental space, "home" was the most common at 50%, followed by "karaoke boxes" (33.3%) and "friends' homes" (30%). Reasons cited included, "I wanted to hold my boyfriend's birthday party, but the noise from others at karaoke would be a concern," "We couldn't go to each other's homes to make Valentine's Day sweets," and "We wanted a space where we could enjoy activities like playing games together without worrying about being seen."

It appears that many cases involve considering a date at home but ultimately choosing a rental space as an alternative due to reasons such as living with parents or not wanting to worry about others. Voices also mentioned "using it on bad weather days," indicating its use for last-minute changes in plans during rainy weather.
