SOMPO Business Solutions Inc. (President and CEO: Yasuhiro Matsumoto) is pleased to announce the development of the 'Internal Audit Practitioner Training Program,' a support measure for exclusive agencies of Sompo Japan, with recruitment commencing in April 2026.
This program is one of our management support menus for exclusive agencies, designed to help insurance agencies autonomously build a PDCA cycle for improving business quality. It aims to promote the on-site establishment of 'customer-centric business operations' advocated by the Financial Services Agency, thereby contributing to the restoration of trust and sound development of the entire industry.
1. Background of Development: Challenges of 'Internal Audit' Faced by Many Non-Life Insurance Agencies
In recent years, in line with the Financial Services Agency's supervisory guidelines and overall industry trends, insurance agencies are required to have a more sophisticated management control system (governance) than ever before. The core of this is 'internal audit,' which involves self-checking the appropriateness of operations.
However, many non-life insurance agencies, especially exclusive agencies rooted in local communities, recognize the importance of internal audits but face common challenges such as:
• 'Don't know where to start in the first place'
• 'No room to assign a dedicated person, and unclear how to train existing members'
• 'Audits end up being formal checks and do not lead to organizational improvement'
These challenges not only hinder the sustainable growth of agencies but also pose risks to customer service quality and information management, making them common industry-wide issues. Therefore, we first focused on developing a program for exclusive agencies, for which we received many development requests.
2. Features of the New Program: Accompanied Support Where Professionals Impart 'Living Audits'
This program was developed under the supervision of Nippon Sourin Co., Ltd. (https://nippon-sourin.co.jp/), a specialized audit institution. It goes beyond merely providing knowledge, supporting the establishment of a system where practitioners can autonomously manage the PDCA cycle without feeling isolated.
(1) Highly Reliable and Systematic Curriculum
Participants will systematically learn the 'form' and 'key points' of auditing from the basics, using texts and materials supervised by Nippon Sourin Co., Ltd., an internal audit expert. The curriculum covers essential themes for agency management, such as management control, compliance, and IT risks.
(2) Acquisition of Practical Skills
Through role-playing and case studies, participants will acquire the skills for 'living audits' that are close to the field and guide the organization in a positive direction. They will develop practical abilities that can be used immediately from tomorrow.
(3) Interaction and Growth with 'Peers'
Through group discussions with staff from other companies, participants will share new insights and hints for solutions. They will form a community where they can grow together while sharing their concerns.
3. Program Outcomes (Voices from Trial Participating Agencies)
Before participating, I understood the importance of internal audits but had not taken concrete action.
Through participation in this program, I realized that internal audit is not a short-term cost, but a responsible 'strategic investment for the future' by management to create a 'sustainable company' where younger generations can work with peace of mind. (Agency Manager)
