Sick Child Care Center 'Lion' Expands Capacity to 6 Children on Its First Anniversary

The 'Lion' sick child care center (operated by NPO Solways), which opened on June 1, 2025, as the first facility of its kind in Ishikari City, is increasing its capacity from 4 to 6 children starting in June 2026 to mark its first anniversary.

This initiative aims to establish a system capable of accepting more children, based on past usage patterns and the rising need for sick child care in the region.

Since opening, 'Lion' has supported local families by providing temporary care for children who have difficulty attending group daycare due to poor health. However, there have been days when the facility has had to turn away requests or manage waiting lists, struggling to fully meet the demand.

In response, this expansion of capacity will help secure a more stable acceptance system and strengthen regional child-rearing support functions.

'Lion' will continue to strive to be a reliable choice for families when they need it most.

The Lion Sick Child Care Center hosts regular facility tours intended to help children and parents familiarize themselves with the nursery, its contents, and usage methods.

Reservation Service 'TeOTe'

For reservations, the center has used 'TeOTe,' developed and provided by Good Baton, since opening. This service allows users to check availability and make bookings online. Parents can search and book anytime via LINE or the web, freeing facility staff from complex administrative tasks so they can focus on childcare.

About NPO Solways

Solways was established in January 2017 by mothers caring for children with severe disabilities and complex medical needs at home, driven by their desire to create spaces for their children. At the time, such facilities and services were scarce, leading to social isolation for families. Starting with the opening of 'SolKids,' a day service for children with severe disabilities in Sapporo, the organization now operates various support services in Sapporo and Ishikari, including child development support, after-school day services, home care, and more. In 2025, it launched the 'Children's Future Support Base Ai no Katachi,' which includes medical short-stay, a pediatric clinic, and sick child care. In October of that year, it received the 2nd Special Needs Award in the 'Friendly City Building' category. The organization continues to listen to and act on the needs of children and their families.
