Group Homes for People with Disabilities are Welfare Infrastructure Supporting a Secure Life

While there are various welfare support and employment services for people with disabilities to live with peace of mind, housing options remain limited. This is due to challenges such as the need for daily life support making independent living difficult, concerns about "after parents are gone" even when living with family, and regional disparities in support systems and acceptance frameworks that affect the ease of living depending on the region.

Group homes for people with disabilities are facilities that form the foundation of life for individuals with disabilities who face challenges and anxieties regarding "housing," supporting their lives in the community.

Group homes for people with disabilities play a crucial role as a system that enables individuals with disabilities to achieve independent living by receiving necessary support, allowing them to continue living with peace of mind in their familiar communities.

Through the operation of group homes for people with disabilities, Social Inclu Co., Ltd. supports the lives of people with disabilities, promotes their independence, and works to solve the social issue of housing shortages for individuals with severe disabilities.

About Social Inclu Home Nagoya Hara

1. Group Home with Daytime Service Support A group home with daytime service support is a type of group home where individuals with severe disabilities or elderly individuals with disabilities who require continuous support during the day can live while receiving daily life support on a 24/7/365 basis. (*1)

Since a short-term stay facility (*2) is also attached, individuals other than residents can use it as a temporary accommodation when family members are out, need rest, or in emergencies.

2. Support Tailored to Disability Characteristics To enable individuals with severe disabilities to lead independent lives, support tailored to their disability status will be provided on a 24-hour basis.

In addition to daily life support such as bathing and toileting, meals are prepared with consideration for nutritional balance, including pureed meals and porridge, tailored to the residents, and meal assistance is provided to those who need it. Health and medication management are performed daily, and staff accompany residents to medical appointments and shopping. During the day, leisure activities tailored to the residents are provided. We support the independent daily lives of our residents by also assisting with the management of finances necessary for daily living.

Before admission, staff with specialized qualifications will conduct interviews to understand the individual's disability status and the type of assistance required for daily life, and an individualized support plan will be created according to each person's wishes and disability status. After admission, we have established a system to quickly grasp changes in their condition through continuous observation and recording of daily life, progress, and developments. Furthermore, support plans are reviewed on a shorter cycle than legally mandated, allowing for flexible responses to changes in wishes and conditions, and providing optimal support.

3. Operational Structure Supporting a Secure Living Environment Group homes with daytime service support have operational standards, including staffing levels and facility equipment, defined by law. A system for monitoring and supporting the lives of those requiring support around the clock is required to support their lives. Facility equipment must be barrier-free, and the living environment must be prepared according to the individual's disability status.

Social Inclu Home's policy is to provide a support system that exceeds legal requirements, such as a standard of two staff members per unit (*3) during nighttime hours. (*4)

The building is newly constructed for the group home, and it is barrier-free with accessible toilets, bathing lifts, entrance slopes, and elevators, allowing individuals using wheelchairs to live there. Security and disaster prevention equipment such as security cameras and sprinklers are also installed.

(*1) Daytime service support is a type of shared living support (group home) for people with disabilities, established in 2018 to address the increasing severity and aging of disabilities. Shared living support is a category of welfare services for people with disabilities stipulated in the Act on Comprehensive Support for Persons with Disabilities, and there are four types: comprehensive care type, daytime service support type, external service utilization type, and satellite type. (*2) A short-term stay facility is a facility that must be attached to a daytime service support facility and provides emergency temporary support for people with disabilities living in the community. (*3) A unit is a living unit equipped with necessary facilities (private rooms, dining/living room, kitchen, bath, toilet, washbasin, etc.) for residents to live in, and one unit consists of 2 to 10 people. (*4) In shared living support, the number and placement standards for employees (staff supporting users) are determined by the number of users and disability support classification. During nighttime and late-night hours, at least one person must be assigned. At Social Inclu Home, the standard is a two-person system during nighttime and late-night hours, but it may be one person depending on recruitment status.
