CROSLAN Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Higashiosaka City, Osaka Prefecture; Representative: Atsushi Kawamura) has announced the addition of a new function to its cloud-based Specific Skills management service 'SMILEVISA (Smile Visa).' This update enables the automatic generation of application forms and related documents for foreign workers who have obtained certification as certified care workers to change their residence status from various statuses—including Specific Skills—to the 'Caregiving' status, all through operations within the SMILEVISA platform.

Addition of the Residence Status Change Function to 'Caregiving'

Background of the Function Addition

The 'Caregiving' residence status is designed for foreign nationals who have obtained Japan's national certification as a certified care worker. Unlike other statuses, it has no limit on the number of renewal periods, allows family members (spouse and children) to accompany the worker, and opens a pathway toward permanent residency in the future.

Compared to the 'Specific Skills: Caregiving' status, which limits total stay to five years and generally does not permit family accompaniment, the 'Caregiving' status supports long-term career development and stable employment.

Therefore, transitioning to the 'Caregiving' residence status after passing the certification exam has become a crucial career path not only for those currently working under the Specific Skills program but also for foreign caregivers with diverse backgrounds such as technical intern training or student visas. For host companies, supporting this transition plays a significant role in ensuring long-term retention of skilled workers.

However, the application process for changing residence status requires specialized knowledge, and preparing the necessary documents—including the Application for Permission to Change Status of Residence—has been a significant burden for host companies.

Details of the New Function

Previously, SMILEVISA supported application processes for Specific Skills No. 2, including certification, changes, and renewals, in fields outside caregiving.

With this update, SMILEVISA now enables the automatic generation of all required documents for changing to the 'Caregiving' residence status for individuals who have obtained certified care worker qualifications. This can be done entirely through the SMILEVISA interface, regardless of whether the applicant is currently under the Specific Skills program or another residence status.

The user interface remains unchanged, allowing even users without specialized immigration knowledge to confidently and easily prepare application documents.

Expansion of Supported Residence Statuses to Four Types

With this update, SMILEVISA now supports four types of residence statuses: Specific Skills No. 1, Specific Skills No. 2, Specified Activities, and Caregiving.

As a result, host companies can now manage the entire journey of foreign workers—from entry and residence, through employment under Specific Skills, to transitioning to the 'Caregiving' status—using a single, integrated platform.

Going forward, CROSLAN will continue to expand SMILEVISA's functionality to cover a broader range of work-related residence statuses. The company aims to support the long-term career development of each foreign worker and further promote the digital transformation (DX) of foreign talent reception operations.

Further details will be announced on the official website.

About 'SMILEVISA'

'SMILEVISA' is a cloud service designed to digitize the management of foreign workers under the Specific Skills program. It is currently being adopted primarily in the caregiving, construction, food service, and manufacturing industries, and has recently attracted strong interest from the hotel, accommodation, and automobile transportation sectors.

Historically, foreign employment procedures have often been outsourced to external organizations such as registered support agencies or supervising bodies. 'SMILEVISA' enables host companies to internalize these processes, achieving both cost reduction and improved operational efficiency.

The platform features an intuitive user interface that requires no specialized knowledge, along with functions such as alert management, foreign talent management, and online application assistance. It streamlines complex application procedures and document preparation, significantly reducing administrative workload.

SMILEVISA helps reduce monthly management costs and the burden of document preparation, and is compliant with the new 2025 regulations. It is widely adopted by both large and small-to-medium enterprises, receiving high praise for reducing management costs, enhancing communication with staff, and improving retention rates.
