In recent years, the understanding and support for developmental disorders have expanded significantly, and the importance of supporting developmental disorders not only in childhood but also in adulthood is increasingly recognized.
In clinical settings, for example, we may face the following questions:
- Graduation from high school is in sight, and it's finally time to enter society. But how should we support the client's life and adaptation after they leave school? What should supporters understand and prepare for?
- How should we understand developmental disorders in adulthood?
- How do people with developmental disorders change throughout their lives?
- What does "maturation" mean in the understanding of developmental disorders?
These questions can often not be adequately answered by the framework of childhood support alone. A perspective on how to understand the long life process of people with developmental disorders is now being called for once again.
In this training, using Dr. Masayuki Oguri's book "Mature Developmental Disorders" as a guide, we will consider how people with developmental disorders change as they walk through life, and what kind of maturation and adaptation emerge. Based on the experience of Dr. Oguri, who has been involved in clinical practice for developmental disorders for many years, we hope this will be an opportunity to learn perspectives on understanding and supporting adult developmental disorders.
