Heatstroke-Related Workplace Fatalities and Injuries Reach Record High—Urgent On-Site Countermeasures Needed

In recent years, the number of emergency transports due to heatstroke has been increasing annually. As of June 1, 2025, heatstroke prevention measures in workplaces became mandatory under revised Labor Safety and Health Regulations, with penalties for non-compliance. Furthermore, in March 2026, the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare mandated that all workplaces implement heatstroke prevention measures based on the "Guidelines for Preventing Heatstroke at Workplaces" (※1).

Despite intensified preventive measures, heatstroke incidents in workplaces in 2025 resulted in a record high of 1,803 fatalities and injuries involving four or more days of absence, including deaths (※2). Particularly severe conditions persist in industries such as manufacturing (365 cases) and construction (292 cases), where workers are frequently exposed to high-temperature environments.

Meeting Demand for Enhanced Cooling: Introducing the "Vest-Type Cooling Pad" with Approximately Double the Cooling Area

To address heatstroke prevention in workplaces and resolve challenges faced in various work environments, MEDIAID launched the "MEDIAID Icing Gear Vest" in 2023, a patented, tankless cooling garment combining Peltier-element cooling with water circulation. During product sales, feedback emerged from workplaces such as welding sites—where heat sources are in front of the body—requesting cooling not only on the back and sides but also on the front of the body. In response, MEDIAID introduces the new "Vest-Type Cooling Pad," designed exclusively for the Icing Gear Vest 2. This new pad maintains the original cooling performance while doubling the cooling area and reducing the hassle of separate pad attachment through an integrated garment design.
