About 'Level 1 Manga Classroom: Manga Kakotto Island'
'Manga Kakotto Island' was conceived and produced by the editorial team managing the joint contest 'Ribon × Shonen Jump+ Elementary School Manga Award' (https://ribonjump.shueisha.co.jp). In 2025, the contest received 314 entries—surpassing the previous year—demonstrating strong interest and enthusiasm among elementary school students for creating manga. To further expand this momentum and introduce more people to the joy of manga creation, the site offers easy-to-follow, game-like content designed for absolute beginners to learn the fundamentals of manga drawing.
On 'Manga Kakotto Island,' users can progressively experience the entire manga creation process—from character design and story development to layout (name) and drawing—through interactive games and videos. The site is structured as an engaging story where users explore the island alongside editorial staff characters, naturally acquiring manga creation skills along the way.
Sixteen active manga artists currently featured in 'Ribon,' 'Shonen Jump+,' and 'Saikyo Jump' are participating in the project. Contributors include Kokichi and Hanazawa Hame from 'Ribon'; Kato Junichi and Fukushima Teppei from 'Shonen Jump+'; and Oe Shinichiro and Wakahama Hiro from 'Saikyo Jump,' among others. These renowned artists have provided original illustrations, allowing users to learn Shueisha's decades-long manga creation expertise through games and videos.
