GALLERY ESCAPERS is pleased to announce the curated exhibition "Kagerohi," focusing on glass artists, to be held at TABAYA United Arrows 1F GALLERY.

"Kagerohi" (heat haze) has been used since the Manyo era to describe a fleeting scene where light shimmers and outlines soften. It exists clearly before our eyes, yet changes form when we try to touch it, showing different expressions depending on the viewing angle and light. This ephemeral yet rich phenomenon deeply resonates with the nature of glass as a material. Enjoy a space of light created by three glass artists, echoing through motifs and materials found in nature.

◾️ copo e eu Offering special limited edition "stone + glass" works created by Sachiko Matsubara using TABAYA blue.

stone+glass TABAYA Special Order L Size 1cut (Blown Glass) stone+glass

Laminated glass series "Seaside" (front piece), new works "sunset, sunrise" (rear two pieces)

This exhibition will feature and sell special limited edition "stone+glass" works made with TABAYA's logo color, "TABAYA blue." These are special pieces, thicker than usual, with colors adjusted by Matsubara herself and created using blown glass.

Additionally, new works from the laminated glass series will be unveiled. The "stone+glass" series, which is always well-received, will be available in a full lineup with a wide variety of types and sizes.

Matsubara graduated from the Glass Course, Department of Crafts, Faculty of Fine Arts, Tama Art University, honed her skills at Azumino Glass Studio, and became independent in 2008. She transforms sensations gained from subtle differences in daily life—such as scenery, wind, scents, and the air on her skin encountered during her travels—into poetic expressions and sublimates them into her works. Focusing on the theme of the origin of individual aesthetics and values, she creates objects that combine glass with other materials. "copo e eu" is a combination of the Portuguese words for "cup" and "me."

Sachiko Matsubara will be present on July 10 (Fri) and July 11 (Sat) from 12:00 PM.

◾️ Featuring wind chimes, glass objects, and vessels by Yoshiko Nitta using sandblasting techniques.

Each of Nitta's wind chimes is a unique piece with a different shape, pattern, and tone.

When these wind chimes arrive, they serve as a symbol of summer's arrival, making us feel that summer has come again.

Glass objects and small dishes that reflect the delicate veins of leaves and beautiful patterns found in nature will also be presented as new works.

Nitta graduated from the Glass Course, Department of Crafts, Faculty of Art, Kurashiki University of Science and the Arts in 2000. After gaining production experience at TAIZO GLASS STUDIO and Studio Re-Light, she became an independent artist. Using the sandblasting technique, she first blows and shapes the glass, then masks it with adhesive and blasts it with sand. The masked areas remain transparent, while the areas exposed to the sand become frosted white glass. The warm expressions created by the subtle variations unique to handcrafting bring a quiet touch of color to everyday life.

◾️ Full lineup of glass works by Rizumi Ando will be showcased.

Single flower vases, object M platinum plate

Ando cherishes how to capture the soft movement of molten glass in her creations.

You can see a wide range of Ando's works, from her standard single flower vases and plates, to "puddle," which seems to capture the shape of a water droplet, and wall hangings and objects using platinum as a material combination. Her works capture the accidental forms of water and glass she scoops up.

Born in Aichi Prefecture. After graduating from the Design Course at Toyama Institute of Glass Art in 2019, she completed the Glass Craft Course at the Seto City New Century Crafts Center in Aichi Prefecture in 2022. She is currently based in Seto City. Ando's works primarily use the blown glass technique with glass melted at approximately 1200°C, giving form to the soft fluidity and vitality inherent in glass through organic forms that evoke water and the rhythms of nature.
