Special Exhibition "Japan Traditional Crafts Kinki Exhibition in NARA 2026" to be Held at Nara Craft Museum! May 14 (Thu) - May 24 (Sun), 2026

The special exhibition "Japan Traditional Crafts Kinki Exhibition in NARA 2026" will be held at Nara Craft Museum, which was established with the aim of promoting and developing Nara's crafts, refined over a long history. This time, approximately 30 works, including those by award winners and successful applicants residing in Nara City or its vicinity, selected from the "55th Japan Traditional Crafts Kinki Exhibition," are scheduled to be exhibited. --- [About the 55th Japan Traditional Crafts Kinki Exhibition] (Purpose) Tradition is always present. Tradition is always present, and crafts are at the root of beauty. Today, the world called crafts was once the entirety of our nation's aesthetic domain. Since the Meiji Restoration, Western art and our traditional crafts have seemed to develop separately, but we are aware that our aesthetic consciousness is still rooted in the world bearing the name of traditional crafts. We hope that this exhibition will be an opportunity to confirm together the production of beauty that is nurtured in the folds of our lives, enduring the passage of history and interacting with it. --- [Highlights] Out of 243 entries for the 55th Japan Traditional Crafts Kinki Exhibition, 207 works were selected after strict first and second screenings. Furthermore, 13 award-winning works and works by successful applicants residing in Nara City or its vicinity will be exhibited after further judging. The power of works born from high skill, long experience, and mastery, the presence of works expressed with new attempts and sensibility, it seems as if the creators are visible through their works. By facing the works, you can feel the "present" of inherited and evolving crafts.
